Mustang PP2 “Still off the pace by a hair.”

The August Motor Trend talks about the Mustang GT with Performance Pack 2 - says it comes up a little short against the Camaro SS 1LE, although it’s better than the Performance Pack 1: “My money is on the Mustang coming close to the SS1LE but not quite cleaning up. There’s no shame in this.”

When I research the equipment on the car, I see no mention of diff or trans coolers, if that's the case, its prone to the same overheating issue as the GT350. Meaning: even if it's as fast as a 1LE for a few laps, it won't do it happily for long.

Actually, I haven’t seen that happening in the real world. I owned one of the too-hot GT 350s, and one of our complaints to Ford was that the Mustang GTs never overheated or went into limp mode at the track, and the GT 350s should have been at least that good. And you’re right: The PP3 doesn’t get any additional coolers - just a larger radiator.

One of the guys on the forum here sold his GTPP because it overheated (trans IIRC) on the track. He has a 1LE now. Another buddy had a Boss302LS and it also had issues with engine and trans overheats, even with an oil cooler. He's driving a P-Car now though.

Yes. That was the quote from writer Frank Markus, who was speculating how fast the PP2 would actually be at Willow Springs. The SS 1LE beat the PP1 by 3.3 seconds. Frank asked the PP2 team how much faster the PP2 would be around Willow, and they said between 2.5 and 3 seconds. So, that's where the speculation came from.

I can see that as true. I think the PP2 will come real close to the 1LE. I mean, I’d hope so for Ford’s sake...

I think it’s a mistype to “PP2”

PP3 = GT350

Based on my track experience the SS 1LE it's already the equal of a GT350. Not sure how the PP2 is going to improve on that unless they can get a hero lap from the Cup 2s. I've also ran with a GT350R and didn't see any big deal with it, but it wasn't the best track session for a comparison.

The SS 1LE would beat on the track the Mustang GT PP2, even that the GT PP2 comes with track tires. The SS 1LE already competes with the Shelby GT 350

Based on coming from a 15 GT/PP with a bunch of Steeda parts under the car the 1LE is the better car. I don't race it so I can't say anything there but this is the better of the two in every other way.

Maybe when they get to the PP26 they'll surpass the 1LE
