First things first...get my work done, get tune worked out and then burn a fr what’s left of my tires and get some new rubber. As for the OP, that is good stuff seeing someone with 20’s throwing down the 1.5 60ft.it also seems that the drag pack will be more consistent but on the best runs there won’t be much difference. Kinda makes it hard to go get dedicated track setup, huh?

That would be my car being referenced here. I love running E85 we have it all over the place here on Long Island. My exhaust tips stay clean as well. Even regular pump 93 around most spots in the country has 10% ethanol so even a non flex fuel vehicle needs to have an ethanol compliant fuel system. The power gained from E85 is VERY evident.

I am currently running factory rears with the TOYO R888R and I loved the tires for about the first 2500 miles. Now they are starting to give up off the hit. But I had very little issues launching the car hard with the TOYO. But there expensive, I am in the same spot that you and Drsagacity have...... What to do... I am leaning towards the 17" wheel but im afraid that after a few months it wont be enough.. and they will be for sale while i buy the 15" deal..

Ok, so I ordered the M/Ts in 285/30/20 last week, expected receipt on July 6. I checked my order status today and the tires are now delayed into August. So, I am now considering going the 305 route since these 285 tires appear to be apparitions. Can anyone provide ET or 0-60 timer differences swapping factory tires to the 305s, all else equal? I was originally hesitant to go to a taller tire. I am only looking for before and after comparisons.
Also wanted to note I found a local tuner high on the e85 conversion with headers- I am back on the e85 bandwagon. |

They are 305/35. From what I have read this is the tire many of the 20 inch drag racers have gone with. There is no problem with front to rear height differences; I am still on stock fronts. I am relocating the wiring harness this weekend. I am not pleased to be going this route but this tire is currently the best available option; there are some documented accounts of good experiences so I hope this won’t be a big fail. I just wanted a shorter tire. Maybe by the time I go through these, the 285/30s will physically exist.

Just going to chime in here. No experience with DR's in 17's or 20's. When I did radials on my car I went with 18's and a 315/40/18 NT05R.
Difference on the street is night and day. Stock tires would spin pretty much anytime I went with more then 1/4 throttle. Best 0-60 using the timer was 4.4 sec. Went down the strip a few times stock and ran 12.45 at 116. Switched to the DR's and they pretty much dead hook on the street. If i'm on asphalt they spin a little but not bad. On concrete it's a dead hook and go. Best 0-60 is now 4.1 sec. Haven't made it back to the strip with that combo. Maybe this weekend as we are finally getting a cool weekend here. |

I realize that the Toyo’s you indicated are bigger than what I currently run, but I can tell you in 285/35 they are no good for consistency and pedal drops- on the stock car I can spin them through third. Good luck with your choice!

OK, got the 305/35/20 MT ET Street SS tires put on. Here is my comparative review vs the R888R:
Noise - gone; R888R were LOUD; the MT is much quieter. Handling - the shop put in 38psi and the car was all over the road; I dropped the pressure to 25 and it is much better. Still follows ruts but does not feel dangerous like it did with all that air. Keeping in mind drag radial vs comp tire, I have no concerns with the MT based on my driving habits. Grip - nice improvement; 0-60 dropped by .2 (cold) - .4 (hot) with TC on. With no TC the car will still not "dead hook" but it spins only briefly and moves out, unlike the R888R which sat in place and fishtailed through 3 gears. |
