It is a publicly traded company, CarMax does not negotiate on vehicle sale prices. Many of my co- workers are from Carmax

You will find one in winter. Get what you pay for & I cannot emphasize that enough. I have seen tragedies people buying cars that were priced low for a reason. It could all have been avoided if they spent a few throusand dollars more on a different car.

For reference to online prices, I negotiated down my dealer's online only "last price" from 32000 to 30,500 on a "rare" 2ss 7k miles with the "rare" MRC sunroof NPP combo of options. Others have done better. But I just wanted this one since it was white. Saves me a lot of derailing.

I guess some folks hate saving money or just have to have it now and justify it by saying it's a "rare" car

Let me clarify my response. Internet pricing is nonnegotiable on preowned vehicles as we have been posting about. Most new cars have subsidies & that is completely different than pre-owned.

Many of your co workers are used car salesmen, I guess. You cannot believe everything they say.

I have personally negotiated a couple of thousand off of carmax sticker price on a toyota for my neice.

I wrote them a check for 3000 less than their sticker. They negotiated and I ended up paying them the extra 1000 + FL sales tax and about 200 for new tag and license fees. I guess they wanted my business bad enough.

It can be done, and dont let a used car salesman tell you otherwise, folks.

You may want to quit while you are behind

Thanks for your good wishes. I'll worry about the cars I buy, you should worry about your used ZL1, prices are dropping off of the proverbial cliff. . But you aren't selling, wonder why you are so worried about the prices dropping. Was it an "investment"?

Why would a dealer subsidize part of a used car for you?

I’ve have owned (3) ZL1’s

2017 A10
2018 ZL1 1LE
& now the 2018 ZL1 A10. I could care less about the values. Just hate to see people misinformed. I work for a company that does not negotiate on ZL1. Honestly I could care less. However I call absolute bullshit that you were able to negotiate with Carmax. You must be old if you’re talking about using a checkbook

I guess I am lucky enough to be able to buy for "cash", hence the checkbook. I understand thats an alien feeling for most folks, to be able to write a check for a depreciating asset. Most Americans prefer to go in debt, since a car is an "investment" That doesn't mean its good for me. To each their own.

You wont negotiate, so no one else will, I got it.

Must've been a bouncer for ya? Enjoy and GLWS

You write a check I lease. If I was in retail purchase with those ZL’s I would never have been able to jump from car to car.

I was just messing with you about the checkbook. I can look at a listing & see how the vehicle is ranked and determine if the car can be negotiated. With Internet pricing usually hundreds are available in discounts if any. However not thousands. That is pretty typical throughout the industry now. There is quite a bit of reasoning behind it & I am sure you know why?

Hahahaha you think they listed the car wrong. Okay. I’m out of this thread.

I’ve seen half a dozen ZL1s sell in the last three months on here with around 5k miles for low 50s. I guess they are rare and will gain value in the next 12-24 months.

Well, I don't sell cars. But I do negotiate hard. Sometimes, the salesman gets pissed, sometimes he/she agrees. I don't take it personally and hope they do the same. Every time I have walked out on a sale, I have found a lower mileage or better optioned car at the same or lower price than what I was offering.

I don't buy "collector" cars. If I did, there may not be any room for negotiation. But for mass produced cars, I do my research on dealers across the nation and then always negotiate hard.

Thanks for your insights from the other side of the table.

On new vehicles absolutely. I’m on your side & I shop the same way. I am on the customer side as long as they are reasonable. $2,000 below $3,00 below Internet pricing on a preowned car is not reasonable. There is so much information on the Internet & awesome sites like CarGurus that uses metric charts & displays cars based on ranking. If you have a vehicle $2,000 to $3000 above book

1.You will get very little traffic. There are transitional reasons to for that pricing to be displayed. Many people come in on preowned and leave in new.

2.Customers do not want to negotiate anymore. There are services like USAA car buying, Costco & TrueCar etc. That is what I do. I am the Internet programs manager for the AutoGroup.

nobody wins in a negotiation. Getting a deal is simply perception. If you get the same price that is available to everyone else, you do not feel like you’re getting a deal.

When will 2019 model start showing up? It seems like 2017 are impossible to find so I'm hoping to grab a deal on remaining 2018, when 2019 start rolling in.

If you can wait, this is the smartest plan. I remember last year in December new cars were going for 58K. I regret not buying during that time. I just couldn't wait another 6 months and bought mine used for $57K. I honestly could care less if I paid $2K higher than someone in CA. I got the exact car I wanted with only 2500 miles. In my location these cars are not available used and when I went to check out getting a new one they wanted $63K and would not budge and it wasn't even fully loaded. Good luck with your search, I think you will be happy at the end of the year. As a side note, I have seen on this forum people getting ready to sell their cars so maybe you will get lucky on that as well.
