Videos: Laguna Seca + Sonoma ZL1 1LE

These are posted in the track times thread but that doesn't get as much activity. Figured I would share here as well to my fellow ZL1 owners. Two videos of flyers at Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca.

While I have run different tires etc., the car in both video's is stock except for an alignment and SRF brake fluid. I am amazed at this car in stock form, especially the brakes. Stock pads went 4-5 track days and handled 4 25min sessions at Laguna Seca which is notoriously hard on brakes. My previous SS 1LE did nowhere near that. The added cooling and larger surface area must do wonders.

I forced myself to drive Laguna a bit easy in an effort to make the brakes last the day and it may have actually benefited me. I drove the crap out of the SS 1LE, and while it may have picked up a few tenths, the brakes would fade after a few laps. I might actually shelf my Hawk DTC70/60's and use another set of stock pads. Caliper temps were a few hundred degrees cooler than my SS1LE using G-loc pads. No caliper paint discoloration or melted rubber seals (both happened after 1 day at Laguna in the SS).

Don't mind the passenger in the Laguna video. Gentleman is a new Grand Sport owner and wanted to see how it was done

Great videos. What is your best time in the ZL1 at laguna?
What are you recording with?

Those are GoPro overlays so a newer GoPro Hero5/6 I’m assuming.

Congrats on great times btw to the OP

How much faster are you in the ZL1 1LE than your previous SS? What tires did you prefer running?

Great driving! I love Laguna, one of my favorite tracks.

Nice work there.... What tire selections did you work with, and how did they compare with the OEM GYs?

Times appear to be 3-4 seconds faster depending on track. I've run G3R's and Hoosier R7's so far, I have a set of older Pirelli DH slicks I may try next weekend. The G3R's are great tires, the issue is the fronts only last 7-8 heat cycles.

1.4 seconds off Randy Pobst's pace with a passanger. That is f*cking awesome. Good job!
Agree it's so hard not to slighty lift over the crest into turn 1. This must've been a 103db day huh?

Nice driving! Impressive.

I spent 3 or 4 hours under mine yesterday finishing up my post delivery work/inspection. Rolling around on my creeper I was blown away time after time seeing first hand, the engineering on this car. As you alluded to, overall cooling/ducting, brake cooling, brakes, suspension and chassis are crazy impressive for a factory stock car.

I can't wait to get this thing broken in.
