2018 ZL1 1LE value, suspension
Hi, im new to this forum and im strongly thinking of buying new 2018 zl1 1le for a daily as they have really good deals now, and I was wondering what people think of the value, will it take a bad hit when 2019's come out? Do you think there will be a 2019 A10 1LE as that would really mess up the value for 2018's.
Also I would like some thought on the suspension for daily driving from the people who own 1LE's (no offense to zl1 owners) i live in LA and avoid 405 at all times and the streets aren't that bad either. Thanks for your time |

The ZL1 1LE suspension is really not all that nice unless you are on flat surface, highway and such. You even head on a nice backroad, come to a small bridge, you will know it. As for value... until there is a new Gen7 that comes out, none of these really hold value. They will always hit a low point and remain higher than a non ZL1 Camaro, or possibly a SS 1LE... but I have yet to see any car in a long time hold value. (And trust me I have had plenty that you'd think would but never did. I think only my 2011 GT3RS is holding firm and more, and thats only because Porsche went PDK on their cars plus the original 991 GT3s had engine issues).

You have to go test drive one (shouldn't be too hard to do in the LA area) and see if it works for you. I do not have one yet, but I have test driven one and I will say this from my POV. The ride is very firm, not to be confused with harsh or crashing over bumps, but firm. I normally put coilover suspensions on my performance cars and to me, it felt about on par stiffness wise with my coilover suspension. Having said that, most people do not put coilover systems on their cars, so to that crowd, it will be overly stiff. It is all relative to what you are used to. To me, I don't care about stiffness, I care about body/chassis control (especially when the suspension is loaded up and gets upset mid-corner) and not being harsh and crashing over bumps. Keep in mind, this is a track car first and a street car second. |

If its any rough indication, there is as an example on autotrader of a 2015 Z/28 with 500 miles for sale at 55k. Its virtual new but has lost 20k in value. No new car is going to hold value unless you are buying some super rare exotic, which these are not.
Why someone bought a car and effectively paid 20k to drive it just 500 miles and then sell 4 years later is beyond me. Anyway, I have a ZL1-1Le and its a fun toy, but I wouldn't daily drive it. There's too much crap in the streets that get kicked up and chip the paint, crazy drivers that cause accidents, pot holes, parking lot dings, etc. Not to mention you will feel every bump, pot hole, uneven lump in the road. I have a hyundai for daily driving - it gets beat the hell up, but its a hyundai so I don't lose sleep over it. I personally wouldn't recommend it but to each their own. Also they are sticking with Manual for the 2019 ZL1-1LE

How much do you realistically plan on driving this car on the track vs the street?
I specifically purchased the ZL1 over the 1LE because I was realistic with myself on how the car would be used, but that might be different for you. It's not like the regular ZL1 won't perform well on a track. |

That is what insurance is for. Just do a proper Expel on chip areas and ceramic coat and call it a day and drive it. I get enjoyment from driving something special and race car like, even if just to the grocery store or the daily grind to work. To me, that is what justifies spending this much on a car, otherwise I would just have a Honda Civic or something cheap. These cars will depreciate whether you drive them or not, and as cars sit undriven, all the seals and plumbing dry rots and goes to shit. Buy one, drive the shit out of it and enjoy it, this isn't a 1 mil exotic car. |

I would suggest you take one on an extended test drive or find someone that has one and go for a ride. I say that because most on here will tell you that the car rides rough and there is no way you can daily drive it. I live in NH and the roads stink due to the frost coming out of the ground every spring and I just did a 80 mile loop yesterday and not once did I say man this car is rough. I did go around some of the major pot holes but I do that with all my cars its a part of life here in NH. I could easily daily drive this car as it rides smoother then my daily driver (2017 gmc 2500hd all terrain diesel with the z71 pkg)
Forget about value just buy it right up front and enjoy it

I daily my ZL1 1LE and have no problems with the ride. Like this car more than any vette I've owned, and have a fairly bumpy commute (albeit short at 12 miles).
Drive one and see, my comfort may be your pain.

Mr. A: The ZL1 1LE is really more a track car, as stated its ride is pretty harsh. But in LA thats acceptable. Your issue is California dealers mark these car up.

The more I drive my ZL1 1LE, the more I like it. I drive it to work 18 miles one way on back roads/rural hwy, EVERY chance I get. I try to not drive it ONLY when they are calling for rain. The stock goodyears dont have enough tread depth to be good in standing water.
I was just driving home the other day shifting gears, and thought to myself this is the perfect sports car. There is nothing I would change. If I am paying this much money a month on payments, I sure as heck plan to drive it. No need in paying this much for something that is going to sit. Its way TOO much fun to drive. Why spend all your money on a car that you never drive, but spend all your time behind the wheel of a beater. Enjoy lift its short. Like someone told me before: "Not putting miles on your Sports car is like not having sex with your wife/girlfriend so she'll be more desirable to her next husband/boyfriend."

.... a slight clarification on my above commentary... The ride is not harsh by any means, but a very controlled firm. (meaning you take most cars, put some spring/stut kit on there and that version of "firm" is like a rock... not proper). The 1LE is MUCH more controlled. One other item you have going for you is, the tires are wider and because of that you may very well roll over a hole and not even notice it (well somewhat). Id say if you plan on any HPDE events... go for the ZL1 1LE with the adjustable camber plates and spool valve suspension.

So, the suspension is stiff but u will get used to it. As far as value, of course more miles equals less in value. Oh well. But the ZL1 1LE is carry some value.
Always amazes me how some people get offended when someone doesn’t “drive” their car? |

For me personally, I can't justify spending that amount of money (on a depreciating asset) and not using it to its fullest. But there are others who have more money than they know what to do with, so their mindset I'm sure is plenty different. |
