Now tracking, may be a different story. But in general heat issues is not something you read about with the LSA. But it is with the LT4 especially in the C7 Z06. I'm still a believer that VERY FEW owners will ACTUALLY get ANY of the late model Supercharged 6.2's to Overheat under any kind of normal circumstances. Overheating has been reported on the 2017+ ZL1 A10s when tracked for >25 minutes at a crack. C7 Z06s same thing if not 15-20 minutes with a pre-'17 A8.

Just my experience...

Originally I was thinking I would just get a 2013 ZL1 when I was ready to upgrade but the 2017 ZL1 is looking really tempting.

2013 ZL1's are going for ~35k right now. I've seen some 2017's for mid to low 50's already.
Do you guys think the 2017's will be closer to 45k a year from now?

Those of you that have had both a 5th gen and a 6th gen ZL1, would you say it is worth the extra 10-15k for the 6th gen?

Here is what I have come up with for pros and cons of each.

2013:

Pros: Cheaper, more money for mods, still has 580hp stock and is easy to get to 600whp from what I have read.

Cons: Heavier. Basically same car that I have had for the last 5 years just WAY better performance wise but exterior and interior are just upgraded versions of what I already have.

2017:

Pros: Whole new exterior & (much nicer) interior. LT4. Has the latest and greatest appeal. Lighter and faster stock.

Cons: More expensive

Either car would be a daily driver since I only average about 10 miles per day and at the end of the day, we aren't talking about million dollar bugattis here lol might as well enjoy it these beasts!!

What are your thoughts? Sorry, lots of questions even though I have a year to make up my mind but I can't be the only one who can never seem to stop thinking about cars
I have owned both and I still slightly prefer the looks of the 5th gen. But more people comment and ask about the CA6 ZL1. As an every day car the 5th gen is more practical as it has more room inside for you and your stuff. And while the newer ZL1 has better interior materials, the 5th gen interior looks as if lifted from a show car. It was. Very cool to me. The newer ZL1 looks a little busy and disjointed. Especially those two lumps in front of the driver. For comfort in the 5th gen avoid the Recaros. The standard seats are the most comfortable car seats ever for me. Also on either car I want the sunroof.

As for fun driving the 5th gen gets 4 out of 5 stars and the CA6 ZL1 gets 5 out of 5 stars. The older car feels a little bigger. But both are very fun to drive, are fast, will perform well on any track, and look good doing it.

Also it sounds like your finances may be a bit tight. So if you plan on putting miles on the Z I would definitely go 5th gen. Most ZL1s are garage queens so any of them with over 20-30K miles are considered high mileage. The value of a high mileage ZL1 will take a big hit.

The newer ZL1 is a better performance car 100% for sure. Can you have the same amount of fun in a 5th gen ZL1? 100% for sure.

So my advice would be go 5th gen. Find a low mileage car, pop on a CAI, pulley and a tune, drive the heck out it, and have big fun. Then hang on to that money you saved and put it towards a newer ZL1 in a few years. What's the rush? Let other people take the depreciation hits while you enjoy what is still one of the best performance cars around.

I was talking SC heat soak where there is no power. I didn’t mean overheat.
My ZL1 1LE has zero heat soak. I can roll run all day. Z06? Different story.

5th gen ZL1 is a beautiful looking Muscle car. With a bullet proof powertrain, but heavy. 6th. Gen ZL1 is superior on all aspects to the previous one, don't know if its powertrain is as resistant as the prior gen. Is a beast at the track even beating some euro exotics at the track wich cost 2X, 3X the ZL1 price. For it's looks I prefer the 5th. Gen ZL1 agressive and clasical muscle car look, but for its performance the newest ZL1, but it looks rice styled.
