Coolant Resevoir Dry
Went out to bang the streets tonight and 2 buddies noticed my tank was dry.
This pic was taken a week ago, it looks half full and I never paid attention. It's now nothing, dry at the top. Maybe an ounce or so is in it, but that's it. All of the fluid is at the bottom of the reservoir. Crazy thing is, temps haven't gotten over 195 tonight even in Houston heat. Should I just fill it back up or do we have some underlying issues going on? I'll prob have my tuner look at it, but it is strange to see it so dry yet my temps aren't running high.

the bottom reservoir looks semi dry in my car too. Just make sure the top one is filled to the cold max line and everything will be fine. I don't think there is an access to fill the lower one as it is likely an expansion tank.

I would wonder where the coolant is going on that car. Meaning, is a head gasket leaking, is it coming out of a hose or radiator?
Seems to me that the normal cold state of the tanks is, the upper one basically full, and the lower one roughly half full. That is what the owner's manual says to do when cool. The bottom tank does have a very small inlet on it with a black cap that says dexcool. |

We have car 20 something bought in Nov of 15 in the SS and a 17 Zl1... So I have had a SS for a long time.. the car is possessed some days its to the lid sometimes its to the filler neck sometimes its half full.. I never smell any antifreeze so there is no leak then all sudden its full the next day.. I wouldn't worry about it if it had air or not full enough the temp gauge would be going up and down if you had antifreeze going past the head gasket you surely would have weird temps or knock or milky oil.. My zl1 does the same but not as severe as the SS.
OR get rid of it quick and get the GTr

Haha. I actually text Matt this morning. Was told it's just an expansion tank and fluid between the upper and lower portions is normal. Woke up this morning and the top part is still empty. All the fluid is still at the bottom. I have no leaks and my car doesn't run hot so. I guess the circulation is still there. Just bothers me to see the top part dry. As said, I did multiple pulls last night and it never went over 195 so. That's why it didn't bother me too much, but then it bothered me just cus I'm an idiot. And what temp range would bother you? It was up and down all night but that was driving or at a light. Driving I saw 188-195. At a light sitting, never saw it above 205. Shhhhhhhhhh on the GTR. I'm over it, but you never know. Could wake up tomorrow wanting one again. My itches usually only last a week or so and if it don't get scratched, I don't purchase. Xmas is what I'm looking at now. It's crazy, but I might get another bike. That Ducati Pinigali V4S is freaking gorgeous.

I ain't pulling 803 right now. That was a 1 hit wonder, but that was on a 60% eth content. So, it wasn't in the 70's which is where Matt likes it. Last night I was running mostly 93. I'm always on Meth. We are actually going to add a 3rd nozzle when I take it back in. It goes back next week as I have an ice tank coming, some cooling blocks, and we are going up 1 size on the lower pulley or is it down 1 size on the lower pulley? Regardless, we are turning boost down a bit to min blower heat. And its in the back of my head that a few other vendors have said you prob have air in the lines causing it to pull timing, then I see this and I'm like, maybe I do. Then Matt swears it's okay.

Iirc the top one is supposed to be full, the bottom one is supposed to be partially filled, which is why there are two separate fill points... one for each one. Theres the obvious big cap for the top one, and then the smaller fill point for the lower one, with the word "Dexcool" on it... because dexcool is what goes in. Lol

Well, any reason why my top is empty? No smells. Not running hot. And why all fluid is in the bottom chamber? Isn't the fluid supposed to circulate between the two or no?

The top tank should be full to the cap and the lower tank should be half full, there is a small sevice/fill port towards the rear under the strut tower brace if your car has one.

probable cause is bad cap. its suppose to hold vacuum so it pulls coolant up from bottom surge tank.

I would replace the cap it isn't holding pressure and let the coolant flow to the surge tank. Suck the bottom tank to half way and fill upper after replacing cap
