I wish GM would offer all season tires as an option on the SS. And why not? Both the V8 Mustang and the V8 Challenger can be had with all season tires. On a tangent subject, the L99 is a great engine and the higher peak HP of the Gen5 LS3 is irrelevant. The L99 rules the strip and the street because of the low end torque obtained with VVT. |

I think you'll be disappointed if you go from Gen5 SS to Gen6 V6. Yeah, the technology and fuel economy will be better, but it sounds like you don't care about those two.

This means when you're not on the throttle and just cruising around, the V6 switches between V6 and V4 modes more frequently, and also its V4 mode will feel anemic. Then again, some couldn't care less about it, I just wanted you to have the info. Not sure a test drive would be sufficient to figure this out. The summer only tires are a bummer up here in the northeast, I agree, but if you buy around Spring, then wear out the first set, you can always switch to all-seasons or get a proper winter set before snow hits.

My V6 or A8 transmission must be defective. Its been stuck in 4-cylinder mode for long stretches of flat highway at 60 to 70 MPH many times. Is this something that should be covered under warranty?

Yes, the V8 A6 will stay in V4 mode on the highway on minor grades, up to about 65. From 65 to 75 it's constantly switching and over 75 it's V8 all the time. So apparently the V6 just has a lower threshold for switching. It can be annoying even with the V8. Sometimes on long trips I shift to Manual, do one downshift to shut of AFM, and then I can cruise along in V8. I don't drive the Camaroin the snow, ever, (SUV for that) and I found that the summer tires were OK even below freezing on dry roads. But below about 50 degrees, terrible in the rain. What it really comes down to, for me, is that I just don't need all that torque. My favorite thing about the V8 is that it sounds like a V8. Not sure that's worth it. Anyway, I have to find a dealer that will let me take a V6 out long enough to get familiar with it. My local small dealer, the one I prefer to order from, has no Camaros on the lot. |

... well, I was not able to keep it in V4 for longer than half a mile. Perhaps your right foot is better at finding the point just under the V6 reactivation threshold that might give just enough power.

Sorry for the sarcastic response, but I think your experience with V4 mode may be misleading to readers who never drove the V6 A8. I'll admit that it does take some practice, but to say it doesn't even work above 50 MPH is just not true.

I had a '15 2SS, bought used in 2017 with 5800 miles on it. It was bad ass fast. Fun. But I don't go to the track, and the performance tires were not happening in the cold weather. I tried them, even though it was suggested on here and elsewhere not to drive in the cold with them. Luckily I didn't kill anyone or myself. So I just basically only looked at my Camaro through November and December. Got tired of that and traded it in on a new leftover 2017 2LT in the middle of January and actually enjoy this car more. First of all I can drive it anytime. It's fast enough for me. Fun. Regular gas too. The Gen 5 looks "old" to me- I still love the design but I like having the new version. I like all the creature comforts. Can't live without that heated steering wheel and light show! lol
