Craziness. The situation must have scared the hell out of them for them to just hand you a new car. Good outcome though!

Sounds like as stand-up dealer. I'll bet 90+% of dealers would not have given you a new car.

You are correct and is still astounds me that he got a new car. I'm glad he did, he deserved it, however most bigger dealers that are chains will not give out new cars because of the legal precedent it sets for any other problems that occur in the service department, past or future, as it can be unerthed in the discovery process. It's just not done.

So after reading this post I went out and looked under my car and found this. The car has been at the dealer with the shudder issue a few times now.
Sorry for the huge pics.

I am a good customer for them. I've bought many cars from them over the years. That may have played a part...

That’s horrible!

Relevant info from gm about the construction and repair of our cars:

“Repair of this type of steel is not recommended,” GM states — in red. “… This type of steel should be replaced only, at factory joints. Sectioning or partial replacement is not recommended.”

Also, you shouldn’t apply heat to ultra-high-strength steels, nor should you stich-weld it. Other recommended restrictions apply as well; check with GM for the correct repair procedures before you screw up someone’s sweet new Camaro.

I read somewhere that this is where they attach to the car for transporting. So this is from either the transport or from towing(don't know why it would be towed as I got it with 60 miles in it.)
