I am confused with the "Set Finish Line" function on the PDR. Carolina Motorsport Park Start/Finish line is right in a heavy braking area and I couldn't be distracted with hitting a button.
My findings: 1. Setting the finish line on the adjacent pit road doesn't work. The lap never ends. 2. Setting the finish line in a place other than the real finish line makes the PDR lap times garbage for comparison to transponder timing systems. 3. Setting a inconsistent finish line makes comparisons difficult as well. 4. Lap 1 gets muddled up with the "out lap". Am I doing something wrong? My best laps every time were the first lap of the session and it is combined with the pace lap. I was the #1 pole and ran into traffic by lap 2. I'm using a stop watch to compare the data.

1. correct, it knows you're not on-track
2. Ok, but you're still recording lap times. If you're trying to get "official" times, you'll need an official transponder. 3. You mean setting a new finish line each time? That makes no sense. 4. If you're 10/10ths on your out-lap, you're doing it wrong. You sound super frustrated, like you're owed clean track and literally everyone is in your way. You deciding to be distracted by one single button push at the start of your session should not be over-taxing your mental bandwidth.

After you set the finish line, does it remain if you shut of the car?

Yes...it remains based off a GPS coordinate

I've been screwing up then. Set it on the pace lap and be done with it.

Has nothing to do with the car being off. When you set the finish line, it saves it to your SD card. You could have different SD cards for different tracks and it will always have the same finish line marked. In theory, you only ever have to set it once and you're done.

"Permanent" is a strong word. If you look at your SD card on a PC, you'll see a map.gpx file on there. That is where the GPS data for you finish line is stored. If you delete that, your finish line is gone. If you keep marking the finish line, it will keep overwriting the .gpx file with the new coordinates.

Got it. I improperly assumed that like the track mode settings, that it had to be redone after every restart.
I unfortunately made my life a lot more difficult in analyzing data in Cosworth by changing the reference point and not having repeat-ability. Thanks for answering!

I try to mark finish line on my first warm up lap of the day, the guys I usually track with have an open 30 min warm up with no passing. Most cars are just cruising checking the track and getting fluids and brakes up to temp.

Is it the same for the drag strip? Here I was looking for set as drag strip button selection.

You want to use the Performance Timing overlay with 0-60 and quarter mile time. You don’t have to set a finish line. Just hit record in the burn out box, stage, make your pass, then stop recording. Repeat each pass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
