I think that boy-racer image is spot on. I see them running around all over he place, and just throwing wheels on an S550 makes it look like some teen racer car. No idea why, but that’s just how it looks. Do you agree?

How much better is the Camaro better than the mustang. I’d imagine there’s more to a Mustang than just looks. Whenever comparing the S550 to the Camaro, it always is shadowed by the camaros performance. But in the big picture, it doesn’t seem like you could reach the S550’s limits on public roads either?

I agree about these bolt ons. My old chevy suburban is running an 8.1L V8, and I threw a K&N intake on with dual 3.5” exhaust. Other than the insane exhaust note and hissing from the intake, the car’s throttle response is almost indistinguishable from how it was before
Well there's alot of variables and factors to consider, models, years, ect.. but basically.. until 2018 - The Camaro easily defeated any comparable model. easily... See, while many complain about the price of the Camaro, there's a flipside to the coin. The car is extremely over engineered to the decree that even a Corvette Z06 had a difficult time with a Camaro ZL1... Some members here have also stated that the Camaro SS and base Corvette drive about the same... So while you're paying more, you have to look at what you're getting... There's nothing in its price range that will defeat it. To put another thing in perspective, some of the things that come standard even on the base 1SS, are only optional in the Mustang, like Brembo's for example.

You would need a suspension package in a Mustang just to hang with a STOCK SS in the curves, and when it comes to the 1LE its practically undefeated by any pony. It was stated by a magezine that the Camaro was just generations ahead of the Mustang in the handling department.

In comparison to the earlier years up till 2018, The Camaro greatly overpowered the Mustang. In 2018 however things got more interesting in the power delivery department. Mustang now has 5 more horses than the Camaro and a 10 Speed Automatic, however; even with these additions... nothing extraordinarily came of it other than it becoming a "Drivers Race" between the two. In the I4 vs Camaro V6, and Camaro I4 vs Mustang V6, the outcome is still the same. Camaro wins

True. People shouldn’t treat public roads like racetracks!!!

Yes. That’s what i noticed. The SS felt very solid. I haven’t seen too many people modifying the camaros though? Where’s the best place to purchase mods? Someone on the forum said the mustang crowd was a lot younger than the camaro crowd. Is that true? That would explain the shortage of asthetic modifications.

That’s a little harsh. Some of those turbo 4’s are very impressive. I wouldn’t judge a car solely by what’s under the hood

Real sports cars don’t have 4 cylinder engines. I have a V6, I say it’s a sports car because it’s a camaro but I don’t consider it to be a race car. It’s a modestly fast car that’s a blast to drive.

There’s nothing more lame to be than a gigantic pile of crap with $10,000 in mods pretending to be a race car. I have friends who post photos of their 90’s civic hatchbacks on FB, they’re the ugliest, lamest car I’ve ever seen regardless of fast it goes. I hate imports pretending to be fast unless they’re true sports cars (WRX, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and so on)

You can turbo a dodge and add a body kit all you want, it’s just a shiny turd. Speed means nothing if your car is lame. I have more lienency for mustang/camaro 4’s since they’re at least a sporty looking car you expect performance from. Sports cars are sports cars. I think Jeep Cherokee’s with hemis are stupid too.

If you define a car based on the number of cylinders it has then you’re not the brightest person. My RS V6 is a grandma car compared to my old Lotus and it did it with only 220hp. The engine and power doesn’t define a car, the car as a whole does.

So-called "real sports cars" always used to have 4-cylinder engines, most of them anyway.

It's only when they started putting on weight (meaning over about 2000 lbs) that the trend to sports/sporty cars with engines of more than four cylinders really got started.

I had a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Dale Jr edition with the supercharged 3800 and it was only rated at 240 hp and 280 lbs of torque. I didn't realize that the Grand Prix's of that same year had higher rated horsepower.

I have a dealer brochure for the 2004 Monte Carlo which gives the horsepower figures.

As far as the V6 vs V8, I personally would not own a Camaro with anything other than the V8. I love the sound and the power and for me personally, anything else would be a compromise which I have learned never makes me happy.

Everyone buys cars for different reasons and has different requirements or wants for what they plan on doing with them. Some people don't care about what motor it has in it but just like how they look. Gas mileage or finances may play a part on what someone gets. I don't think there is any right or wrong answer here. Just enjoy what you get.

I like sports cars, lotus is considered a sports car. I like all kinds of cars that are 4 cylinders, WRX STI’s being one of them. I appreciate all kinds of sporty looking cars and their performance. What I don’t appreciate are things like jettas, civics, dodge darts or neons or Ford focus’s. Cars that are not inherently sports cars that they’ve thrown parts on to pretend they are. I’m sorry, I laugh when I see a Ford Focus, even if it could go 250mph. The camaro 4’s are bad ass and really fast but that doesn’t mean I want one. I don’t judge cars based on their speed, I judge them based on their looks. But the true sports cars that I’m truly impressed by are the real ones. Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, ZL1, the new ZR1, Maserati. Those are the cars I look at and say, “now that’s a true sports car.” Just because you don’t share my opinion doesn’t mean you get to question my intelligence. The fact you actually wrote that is hilariously childish and you can kiss my ass.

You’re just making things up now. With posts like this and the V6 Facebook group, I can see now why the V6 Camaro is the butt of people’s jokes.

My Miata laughs at not being a "real sports car."
