Exactly my thoughts regarding these discussions becoming circular in nature...

Imo they went back to more retro look and i like it.
And generally speaking an effort to take pony cars away from retro and into a modern sports car theme hasnt worked well market response wise.

Mustang lost about 50% of its volume over the past 3-4 yrs and the current refresh trend doesnt seem any better. Camaro got much weaker too obviously.
Only Dodge stayed steady as she goes as they practically changed nothing styling wise. But their numbers were never truly stellar, just really steady.

All sport coupes have suffered declining sales and some even more so than the Camaro. So the whole segment is down - a lot! It is a niche market.

Also, unsure who the prime market is for these cars today. Clearly a different segment than say even 10 or 15 yrs ago. Manufacturers know who buys them we dont.

Hence i think there is a lot more to it regarding sales success as most new buyers may not even know or care what a gen2 or even 5 looked like. It will be interesting to see where it leads longer term regarding pony car future.

It’s just like kids if you hear children argue everybody thinks what they have is the best and logic doesn’t really play into it. When General Motors gets a nice sales boost from this refresh everybody will change their tunes and adapt their ideas and say yeah I knew all along it would sell blah blah blah. It’s identical to the 5th gen refresh predictions. All wrong ,no ownership of being wrong by anybody. History has proven them wrong and they’re still right.

I'll take full ownership of my opinion, the front clip on the SS is ugly as hell....and that's definitely not trying to justify my earlier purchase.

I'll also own this statement: The 2019-2020 style Camaro SS will sell fewer private party "non fleet" vehicles than 2017-2018 model years.

If the 2019 had some of the following guaranteed fixes or improvements, I "may" be able to understand / accept the radical styling decisions.

I was hoping the 2019 had a front camera, a better stereo system (existing is pathetic), a differential guaranteed to not groan, end links that won't loosen, an upgraded NPP system and an off button for AFM.

Will I buy a 2019? Only if I decide to buy a track car and there are no more 2018 1LE's on lots to buy (I'm on the fence with buying a track car.

Yep i absolutely see gen2 influence as well. Id love if they moved into that direction for gen7. But i am partial to that look.

Now i also see 2 other things:

1. Dodge completely copied Camaro rear lights theme on their latest Challenger refresh. They should just include an SS badge to go with them and call it a Challaro!

2. Gen2 rear lights design made it onto Cobalt years later pretty much 100% unchanged. This is to clarify which direction that transition went and who gave and who took. At least it all stayed in the family...

Look at this .... this just looks wrong. Where's the muscle? Where's that imposing look? It looks watered down and sedated, like they let Subaru design the refresh...

Cars that look pissed off and imposing may resonate with a few enthusiasts and alike but not general public who needs to buy enough of them for GM to keep making them at this price point. Lest we will be left with an SS at ZL1 prices. Kinda what GT350 has become...Current version looks over the top imposing has a very low splitter that an average dd person will hate and it aint selling well.
They had to change the look vs just tweak it. Doing more of the same will never lead to new results. Just my opinion.

Opening it to the general public so they can add it to their Honda cross-shop list is what destroyed this car’s design.

What’s more sad is that they killed two beautiful designs (RS and SS) with this refresh, not just one. My “hate” towards it is because they just forced me to get a leftover 2018 and closed my options to buy either 2019 versions.

And I have no more hope to get a badass gen 7, given the softness / general public look of this refresh.

I would very much prefer to pay more for an enthusiast car that looks great and mean, than have no options anymore.

If you dont mind paying more dont dispair as ZL1 is still there unchanged for 2019. Uber bad ass car bar none! And costs less than a plain GT350.
Ps what Honda model would anyone cross shop a Camaro with? I think thats a wee bit of a stretch dont ya?

So now because any 2019 version is plain ugly (if you don't believe this yet, I can create a poll), everyone that wanted to get a I4 Turbo or V6 is forced to go with a supercharged V8 ZL1 or no Camaro at all?

That's a pretty bad strategy to ditch all your enthusiast buyers for which the pre-refresh versions were close to perfection.

They didn't make the 2019 hoping everyone would hate it and force them to a ZL1. that would be the stupidest idea ever.

They thought we would like it but we didn't...either they will learn from it for the 7th gen or they will keep in this path. No one knows yet.

It doesn't need to be more aggressive at all, what it needs is way more subtlety.

The 6th gen design language (both pre- and post-refresh) seems to appeal mainly to grade school boys.

I switched to the Camaro from a 6th gen Mustang and no one has said the Camaro looks better than the Mustang, minus the under-12 crowd, who loves it.

I hope the next gen Camaro is a lot more sleek and subtle and grown-up looking than the current gen. And hopefully they drop the Hot Wheels, Transformers, and similar childish crap.

No i don't believe it's ugly at all , what i do believe is that a lot of people had a vision of what the car should of looked like in there own head and it didn't materialize. If you don't like the new Camaro then thats just too bad . No matter how much crying or stomping of feet you do its not going to change anything . You can take polls and start new threads all you want because people are going to buy the car and love its looks and performance . No matter what you think of its looks, it only effects you and those who don't like it only . I personally think you are just embarrassing yourself when you try speaking for true Camaro enthusiast ,which you are not .
