Deactivate/Disable/Turn-off OnStar tracking: Chevrolet Smart Driver

I have seen discussions about the concerns around the (automatic) Opt-In GM program: Chevrolet Smart Driver
While they may exist, I wasn't able to find any easy to follow instructions on how to turn it off / deactivate it. (As you might guess, the instructions are not readily available via 'the google'.)

If you're like me, you didn't purchase 650hp in the hopes of acheiving Insurance Discounts...by being tracked by big brother, everytime you start your car.
Below are the instructions on how to disable.
(Note: You are automatically opt'd-in to the program and are being tracked (from the day you leave the dealership), if you have OnStar and have not specifically deactivated the setting.)

Go To: https://my.chevrolet.com/login

<Login>

Click: Account and Settings
Click: Vehicle Settings

<scroll - to the very bottom>

<Under the Opt-In Programs header>
Click: Deactivate (Chevrolet Smart Driver)

lol my driver score. literally requires driving like a grandma which id argue is more dangerous in most situations. heavily penalizes quickly stopping and accelerating. i turned it off.

Some of those could come back to bite us, Using broad descriptions to void warranties?:

"for warranty administration and validation"
"to evaluate vehicle performance and safety as described in the vehicle owner manual"
"for research, evaluation of use, and troubleshooting purposes"

Now I'm officially getting paranoid...

I like the remote start, would that be disabled also? Here in Phoenix it gets into the 100's by May, close to 120 in June, July and August. Doesn't start to cool down till October. Having my car on with the AC already cold by the time I get in is great. BTW, the rest of the year is glorious.

MrRuss...I just tested it and Remote Start will still work after the tracking has been disabled. That said, will Remote Start no longer work after you let your OnStar subscription expire?

Remote start still works for me. I did lose the vehicle status part of the app where you can see things like tire pressure and fuel level when I let onstar expire.

You don't need OnStar to use remote start from the Key FOB.
They are not tied together at all.
Remote Start does not work via OnStar.

Now, remote unlocking of your car does (if you lock your keys in the car) and that will probably not work if you disable OnStar.

I've never had OnStar (except for the initial trial) and even then they never got any of my user information.
I told the dealer I didn't want it, and I wasn't signing into anything.

We got one letter (via US Post Office) letting us know that the trial was expiring. Nothing since then.

its my understanding basic onstar functionality is supposed to be for 5 years included with the vehicle.

If it has a computer it can be hacked.

My mom just bought one of the caddys with the auto pilot. I drove it and used that feature. The car can accelerate decelerate and turn by its self !! Guarantee that can be hacked.

The thing is are you worth the effort. Most of us. Probably not. Americans most wanted. Different story.

Headed to the store. Low on tin foil !!!

You guys do realize OnStar can track and pull info from your car anytime wether you have opted in to smart driver or not. It is in the privacy notice. You can disconnect the OnStar box which is probably in the trunk or you can call in to tell them you don't want any 2-way services supposedly. Disconnecting the box is the only way for sure to prevent them from tracking you.
