Next Camaro will continue to be a 2+2. Visibility, interior storage and trunk concerns addressed. SS level at ~500 HP. I think a hatch would be a smart move.

I would imagine there would be just about as much room under the hood trunk...maybe i'm wrong.

So hopefully I don't get anyone in trouble, but I was talking to an engineer and got a couple details on 7th gen.
So first it will be developed on a revised Alpha platform called the A2. Second I was trying to impress upon the engineer that the car should have shorter sills (better visibility) and he expressed something to the effect of: Camaro owners want the chopped look and that is the direction we are continuing to take. To me that is unfortunate as the lack of outward visibility is, by a large margin, the biggest detraction for people who are in the market but aren't already die hard Camaro fans.

I would be happy with a hatchback but I am a 3rd Gen guy (that was my first car) and remember how nice that hatchback was for carrying stuff that you wouldn't expect to be able to do in a car like this. One of the big complaints about the current gen is the size of the trunk opening compared to how big the trunk actually is...this would solve that and if done right keep it looking like a sports car and not like how Porsche did the first Panamera.

I frequent Foums and Youtube comments all across the spectrum and every time a Camaro comes into a comparison the "but you can't see out of it" comments start flying, even in comparisons like the SS vs M4 where the Camaro was superior, and vastly less expensive. Sure some of that is just like politics, people are firmly rooted, and sluff off facts that don't fit their paradigm, but I still think the Camaro with it's current level of performance credibility could win over a lot more customers with better visibility. Frankly I think this is evident in the declining Camaro sales despite the best performance ever.

From my understanding
The mid engine Corvette will be 100k to 150K (like a Z06) Chevrolet will still make the Stingray (65K) this is a serious market segment and Chevrolet will no give that up. |
