First time buying new - need advices.
Hi guys.
I am about to pull the trigger on a 2018 Camaro. It will be my first time buying from a dealer. I already bought few used cars, and it kinda easy; deal the price, add all taxes, add interest fees and boom, you have your monthly payment. What about a dealer for a new car? Is there something I should pay attention to? I don't know if they have ways to deviate my attention and add some stuff or cancelling some other? I already have set up some questions regarding the warranty and the gm workbench. Also some regarding few LPO options and maintenance. I plan on getting a copy of the contract before signing it so I can read carefully and highlight anything that I want to double check (already been in a situation where no reading the contract properly before signing made me lose 4000$...). I have my flame suit on in case it has already been asked. I read the stickies on here but I feel like there somehthing missing. Maybe I am just too scared about this and I have already planned properly. Haha. Thanks for your help. Hopefully evert hint will work and I'll have my 2018 soon

If this is custom order you will be limited on price... usually you can get around 2-5k under msrp.
Deal with your local bank or Credit Union to get the best interest rates. Sales want to use GM Financing because they add interest to make more money for them. The sales man will state you "can get 4% financing" Later you will be discussing monthly payment thinking it's 4% GM Financing. Then the APR once signed is 8-20% So save yourself the hassle and deal local for any loans. When numbers are agreed on sales like to discuss added warranty. I like to ask "You mean I need extra warranty, you mean to tell me your selling me a piece of junk that won't last?" This usually stumps them as now your ready to walk away from a junk car. After a few discussions back and forth I usually end up with free extended warranty or I'm not buying the "junk that won't last" Sales make more money on used cars than new...so they will be a little more interested in selling you a 5,000 mile car than a new one. Keep in mind dealers need to sell cars to keep contracts alive with GM, you only "want" to get "A" car. So expect in order to get halfway decent pricing this will be a long term sale...meaning a few trips into the place, a little indecisive to what color and options your looking for, visit a few different dealers, etc... Walk into customer service and ask the people waiting what service is like, not workers, other customers. How long did they wait to schedule, what broke, etc... See if the dealership is even worth your time and money. Ask customer service representative what issues they seen with the car you want to buy...(your here so you already know warranty issues, shudder in trans, recalls, TSB's, etc...) Just see how well they know the car your interested in. One day your going to be going into service for your free oil change, or warranty issue and you want to be certain you don't get the "we couldn't find any problems with it" response as many of us did with shudder. Best of luck |

Hi.
Thanks for the reply. That's appreciated. I've already checked with some banks and the interest fees would be higher than what GM offers. Please note I am located in Canada and interest for a 6 years loan is 0.99%. Banks can't get me less than 3%. But that's a good thing to check, if the interest fees are different afterwards. Also, as for extended warranty, I didn't plan on getting it, but I like the idea of "is your car really bad that it needs an extended warranty??". As for the trans, I'm getting the M6 so that saves the question. Thanks again for your input. |

2018 msrp-5000 + 1000 rebate from GM is doable.
2017 leftover someone just got 9000 or thereabouts below MSRP. 23% off IIRC. 2019s will be here in a few months. |

-5000 msrp would be for an SS. Unfortunately, I can only afford a base model with RS and Tech pack.
If I can get 1500-2000 off msrp I'll be happy. And I already checked with the dealer, no 2017 left that has the options I want without being over budget. |

Wouldn't hurt to ask if they could make it within your budget, they will likely be motivated to sell the 2017 with quite a bit off.

I already went to my local dealer last September to get a price on a 2018 they had on their lot.
Msrp was 34k. They were fine letting it go for 32.7k. This would be a good reference for the price I'll get this week..if it is similar, then I'm OK, if they don't want to go close, I'll step back and keep my Tiburon...! |

Ok so I am back from the dealers (made 2 out of 3).
One said it can order a new one, the other one said they can't...! The one who can got me a decent price, around 1500 below msrp. The other one who can't already has one on their lot, it has been sitting there for like 6-7 months. It has RS package but not the Tech Pack (so 7" screen). Sticker price is 34k, they can go to 30,750 cause they want to see it go. I really want the tech pack, but if the second one ends up being right and they can't order any, I think it will be a good deal, 3200 below msrp. We'll see tomorrow when I'll end up meeting with the last dealer. |
