Dealers in my area had tons of inventory but wouldn't deal. I also wanted a 50th anniversary 2SS, A8, NPP Moon Roof Car which didn't exist in my area at the time and dealers wanted a premium to order one. Best I could get around here was $49K

Traveled about 300 miles into IA and wrote a check for $41K, Had to pay IL sales tax when I got back but I felt that was a good deal for the car as it was stickered for almost $49K.

look online within 100-150 miles if you find one your local dealer can get it for you in a trade between dealers unless there lazy.

Ford is running Mustang commercials on Velocity TV. First time in years I've seen that.
I'm in the very early stages of deciding Mustang or Camaro but just checking out local dealers on Sundays when they are closed and also Internet, shows a pitiful stock of Camaros. Mustangs are easier to find including some 17's but they seem to be the same cookie cutter orders. GT with performance pack, manual and Sync navi option. Seems the same at all the dealers. I've seen a few low mileage Camaros and Mustangs but they have obviously been modded so it's a no go for me.

I talked to him again today, he does not want to play games to buy a car. He said the two Ford dealers had 9 Mustangs in Gray alone GT and GT Premium, and offered a total rebate discount of $4800 on a 44,000 car, Chevy had none like he wanted in the Gray and only offered $1000 Rebate and maybe 800 off sticker if he wanted to order and wait 6 to 9 weeks they told him. I tried to get him to convert, but GM Chevy failed. Oh well.

I flew to Arizona from Los Angeles because the dealerships around here were so bad. I actually ordered a car with a local dealership because there was no stock of what I wanted (V6 1LE). I got a call a few days later from the dealership saying that I would have to put down a $1,000 non-refundable deposit for them to order the car (illegal in California). The best they were going to do was invoice minus current incentives. The dealership in Phoenix knocked a couple grand off invoice and gave me all the incentives, ended up being $6k off sticker! 1000% worth the $150 airfare. Every conversation I had with local dealerships was awful and full of misinformation. Such a shame because the car is so incredibly good.

Yet Ford charges thousands extra for a GT350 because .... why? It's literally just listed on the window sticker as extra fees.

I found my car on autotrader 200 miles away, the dealer treated me completely fair, the price online is what I paid, and I couldn't be happier.

Don't just support the local dealer because they are local, do your homework and make an educated and smart choice.

No kidding, I even stopped at a dealer on the way, showed the price of the dealer I was heading to when I was on the way to get it(they had a similar car), and they told me I better get there, no way would they try to match that price. I thought it was funny they gave up as soon as they saw the price. Doubt that lot will ever see my shadow again.

No, no they didnt. Your friend just didnt really want a camaro. If he did he wouldve held out and looked harder just like many of us did. Quit trying to make it sound like this was GMs fault. Its the end of the 2016-2018 run and in certain locations yea, stock of ss camaros is low. Not surprising, and not really a hinderance to buying one if you are willing to drive a bit. The price difference insignificant to someone comparing two 40k sports cars. 1 or 2k in rebates would not make me change my mind about what car i wanted. At the end of the day, your friend just did not want a Camaro. Thats on him, not GM.

WRONG - I love my Camaro, and he gave it a shot, I don't blame him one bit for choosing the Mustang, they advertise a little better, the Ford company which is not behind much based on todays news, actually cares about selling Mustangs. GM's offers are crap right now and the fact you cant find a descent selection of an SS in April is nuts.

Ford and Dodge wanna sell there Muscle Cars, I got no idea what Gm / Chevys doing but its not making any effort to promote or sell these cars in any way.

I quite agree in the Atlanta area.... Dealers around here have a real "**** you, you want our car and you will pay our price" attitude. They advertise with incentives that know most people don't qualify for and when you try to work with them, they immediately swap into "What payment do you want?" mode.

I had one actually toss a few mild insults my way when I tried to steer the conversation back to price and then walk back to my car when they wouldn't.

Hell, one dealership told me "We don't test drive these (SS 1LE) because people who want these keep them as collectors cars and they want 0 miles on them".... Looking at you Nash Chevrolet in Lawrenceville (full disclosure, they did eventually decide that they would permit me to drive it but I was in '**** it' mode by that point and just left.

This ^ is the secret. Plan on buying your car at the end of a month, winter is best in the north. Find your car with AutoTrader. No BS from salespeople this way. Negotiate your best price emailing/texting with several dealers at once. Play them against each other. Be willing to travel to pick up your car. My last 2 plays:

Honda Accord Touring: $35K Sticker, I paid $28.5K. (It was a demo)
ZL1 Almost $70K sticker, I paid $61K. (6 miles on the showroom car, no one test drove this car)

The Honda was 60 miles away. Driveable.

The Camaro was 300 miles away. Took the train to pick up the car. It was a fun day and the drive home was incredible.

In both cases I got the exact color/options I wanted.

I just got a 2018 MSRP 48,435 for 41,435. I negotiated with the dealership for a full month a half. I told them my price and to call when they were ready. Finally got a call last Friday lol

Nope, sorry man. If your friend wanted a camaro he wouldve looked harder, or waited for 2019 models to hit lots. Thats not a bad thing and im not judging his choice. It just seems like you are assuming he wanted a camaro but settled for a mustang. I doubt that. He bought the car he wanted.
