I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. It all depends on your needs and what you're willing to spend.
I went from a 1991 RS to a 2014 RS to a 2017 2SS. I loved both of my V6s (especially the 91 considering it was my first car). They're fun cars to drive and you can really wring them out on the open road. The MPGs were great on the 14, along with being able to run regular gas and cheaper overall insurance. I daily drove both of the V6s and daily drive my V8. I decided to upgrade to the V8, because it's something I've always wanted. I don't race, though I'd love to get it out on the track someday. I just couldn't ignore the visceral driving experience that I get out of the SS. The rumble of the engine, the tone from the exhaust, and the general happiness I get hitting the pedal (even in horrific Chicago traffic). The V8 is definitely more expensive. My car payments are higher, my insurance is marginally higher, and premium fuel is definitely more expensive. Thankfully this car still gets great highway MPGs, which is where I spend most of my time, so overall the fuel is nearly a wash from what I was getting out of my 14 (within about $20-$30). Do I need to daily a V8? God no, but it's what I always wanted so I went for it. I'm 30 and there's a chance life will slap me in the face someday and not allow me to drive something like this all of the time. Also, don't let anyone tell you that you can't drive an SS in the snow. I put winter tires on the car (just like with my V6) and was able to get through the entire winter season with little issue. Not all of us SS drivers garage the car when the weather is bad. I'm approaching 15,000 miles and I haven't even hit the year mark yet. TL;DR: The V6 is one hell of a car and I would still be driving one today if I didn't pay attention to the siren song of the V8. The V6 should get plenty of love and I still give a thumbs up to the ones I see on the road. Who cares what's under the hood as long as you're driving a Camaro, right?

More people should understand this. I'm a fan of ALL cars. I don't care if you have a 82 iron duke Camaro, a V6 mustang, or a Z06. Just because it's not what you would have owned doesn't mean the person that owns it doesn't love it. As long as you don't stance it out or do something stupid and dangerous, it's your car. Enjoy it.

I've owned my 2016 2LT V6 RS hyper blue for 2.5 years..And in this time I have never had anybody tell me I should've got the V8..People just give me a thumbs up or tell me that my camaro is one badazz ride..This alone puts a smile on my face..

[QUOTE=DevilsReject97;10160362]No, we're definitely different. I've driven plenty of V6 cars, and aside from my Grand Prix GTP... I was never a big fan of them. Even with my GTP, it was more due to the 3800 motor than anything else. I've driven both the 5th gen and 6th gen V6 cars...they're okay if that's enough for you. It's never been enough for me.
I test drove a bunch of other "sports cars" if you will, and they simply weren't enough for my tastes. That doesn't make them bad cars, it just means they weren't a good choice for me. And since I went from one V8 to a blown V8....well.. ![]() Fair enough man into each their own. It's just funny though because you're driving a 5th gen which is substantially slower than the 6th gen. Your SS stock would be more comparable yet faster than the 6th gen V6 then it would be comparable to the V8 6th gen. And I'm talkin 0 to 60 times here. I believe the 5th gen was around 4.5 seconds according to GM for the SS and we're sitting at 5.1 seconds for the V6 in the 6th gen. The only thing that you can compare the 5th gen SS to the V8 6th gen SS would be sound. now I'm sure you've modded it but the bottom line is you bought it stock and it was good enough for you to lay money down to buy it at that point. And your V6 GTP what was that 200 horse what did that do 0 to 60 in 7 or 8 Seconds but that Beast was somehow enough for you? Like that GTP would be about as fast as a Dodge Caravan these days. I'm just trying to make sense of what you're saying that's all so let's say the 7th Gen Camaro comes out in the V6 is beating your stock SS right from the factory floor will that still not be enough? The fact that my V6 is as fast as my LS1 it's pretty impressive to me. Not looking for a pissing contest you just had a whole lot of it's not enough for me in your comment and I'm trying to understand why |

![]() I've been driving smaller-engine cars for a very long time, and have had a blast with them, so I don't judge anyone here that wants the V6, or even the Turbo 4. |

In my experience, the main motivating factor behind getting a V6 is financials (car payment, insurance, MPG, etc.). Same thing with the trim levels. Don't get me wrong.. any 6th Gen camaro is great, we're all fortunate enough to afford a nice looking sports car, but don't try to dress the V6 up to something that it's not.
Comparing performance numbers of the V6 to anything or using 'fast' in the same sentence is a little much. The car looks great, that's about it. You're also loosing out on the great sound. I personally can't justify buying a sports car that looks the part but sounds like a Prius on start up and putters along on the highway. Enjoy what you got, but don't try to turn it into something it's not.

Yep a Camaro is a Camaro no matter what trim or engine you have. Enjoy it, mod it, love it

Six-cylinder engines have a distinctive sound all their own, or they can with only a little work. Granted, the 'smoother' sound of a 6 might take a little getting used to if you're coming from V8's rather than small to mid-displacement roadsters/coupes/sedans, but that doesn't make the sixxer sound a bad one on any absolute scale.

That's a whole lot of bad information man but what can one expect from a guy who buys a ZL1 and gets an auto. And I don't care that the auto is faster. And your words don't try to dress it up to something it's not you absolutely bastardized that by putting an automatic in it. If we're going to call it like we see it there's my little couple of cents for you Beautiful car man should never bought it in auto. |

Everyone doesn’t seem to understand the millennial perspective on cars. “Why are they running around with those tiny fart cans and big turbos?” Im starting to understand now. I heard this earlier. The most effective way to make a car faster is not to add power, but to reduce weight. You get all that power out of a 6 or 8 and you’ll have a much more nimble car. This isn’t 0-60, power to weight ratio, or any of that paper bogus. This is what the car feels like to drive. This is why the japanese cars were so fun, and the germans have messed around with this too. The camaro is built on the most capeable handling platform yet, so I don’t see why everyone is so against the handling versions. Calling the camaro a muscle car is an insult to its potential. Quote:
The crazy thing is the younger crowd LOVES the sound of the turbo 4’s. Especially with the sneezing from the blow off. To be honest, I think it sounds kind of cool. Being able to feel the boost come on, and hear all that PSI released when shifting can be quite satisfying. You need to be able to view your camaro as a sports car though, and the people who lived through the muscle car era aren’t as able to see it that way |

Even though its a lower model in the category doesn't necessarily mean it does not carry a performance title, and to show that even Chevy recongizes it as a performance model, they even made a 1LE model which pretty much confirms the car IS intended to perform and compete... with an SS? No, but will it handle just about 90% of everything on the road...easily...even its competitors have problems with it (Mustang V6 doesnt stand a chance and even the Turbo 4 can't take it, same goes for the Challenger and the car with some mild mods is able to slay most older V8's.) |
