ZL1 1LE - Corrosion

I have searched and found a few threads about corrosion in the engine bays and under carriage components.

I am looking at one now that has a perfect exterior / interior and drives amazingly, but pop the hood and its like wow, that looks horrible. It is almost like everything was soaked in a salt bath for months prior to assembly and then it set out side again for months after assembly.

I would be embarrassed to pop the hood on this one next to my 2012 ZL1.

So is this normal now days? Are all of the ZL1 1LE's subject to this or just the one's that were made and shipped in the winter months?

Wow that’s crazy. Mine came absolutely flawless except the rear differential had some minor corrosion. I just cleaned it off with rust remover and sprayed it with high temp black auto paint. Showroom new now.

What? You expect a new car to actually look new? Be careful with progressive concepts like that around here. The fan boys will be by later to make sure you know you're being unrealistic.

I swear a Camaro could be delivered with mismatched paint, 3 wheels, and a broken windshield and somebody on here would accuse you of whining and find a way to spin it into a cost vs performance conversation.

(I caught hell for not buying a ZL1 1LE earlier this year because of corrosion.)

its because they are shipped on an opened trailer through the salt and then sit without being rinsed off

+1

A brand new $72,000 car should look like.... well, a brand new $72,000 car when delivered. Makes perfect sense to me.

Since all of the steel parts are painted I am assuming you are referring to the white powdery look on aluminum parts? I agree it is ridiculous that the cars are coming this way. However, this mild surface corrosion will usually be easily removed with engine degrease. Just spray on and hose off. Then take the car for a 1/2 hour plus ride to bake all of the water out of the engine bay.

Mines perfect no corrosion never heard of this issue on a new car. Not even RS camaro's or SS camaro's have this issue.

Do you have any pictures from proof? It seems hard to believe a dealer would be selling a car in that state.

Doh ! lol, yes I am very familiar with your thread Travis. I really don't think some of those replying have really seen the issues first hand. Your pictures while not very appealing look really nice compared to what I just looked at.

I really hope that is the case. I may drop back by and attempt to clean a little of it up. I really don't think there is any hope for the alternator, it would have to be sawed off with something that had a diamond tooth blade.

If the rest of it shows signs of cleaning up that would be terrific and I would be back on board with it.

I don't, I was kind of dumbfounded when I saw all of the corrision and trying figure out how or even if it could be fixed.

If I go back and try to clean some of it up I will snap a images.

Thank you guys for letting me know this is not the norm.

Curious what was the build date and where was it delivered to?
