Steering Wheel Shaking

Hey everyone. I decided to switch from my winter wheel setup back to my stock summer set over the weekend. Driving to work today I noticed that my steering wheel is shaking slightly as I drive. This happens at both low speeds and high speeds. This didn't happen with the summer set before taking them off and never occurred with the winter set on.

It was cold and a little snowy this morning (took the winters off a little too early), so I don't know if that played a factor in this. The summer wheels sat in my garage through the winter under a cover. Any idea what might be causing this? I made sure to torque the lug nuts to specification and didn't notice any missing when I got to work this morning.

I'd get the wheels and tires road force balanced.

Would the wheels really need to be rebalanced after just sitting in the garage all winter? Also, the steering wheel shaking occurs at all speeds, not just low or high. It doesn't get any better or worse as speed changes.

I would question whether you got the front wheels properly installed.

Are these the factory wheels or do they require hub rings for centering?

And did the winter wheels come with their own lug nuts? If so, did you remember to go back to the original lug nuts when you switched back to the summer wheels? Not all conical lugs have the same angle, and so could be specific to a set of wheels. If you made this mistake, you may have already done some damage to the seats on the summer wheels.

Everything you're telling us points to an installation problem, not balance. A balance problem would only show up at high speed, and no, storing the summer wheels didn't make them go out of balance. It sounds more like a gross error installing them.

Thanks for the reply Rock-It Man. These are the factory wheels, so I should be good there.

The winter set did come with their own lugs. I thought I separated the two sets of lugs out during the install, but there's a chance I may have grabbed a wrong lug when putting the wheels on. I'll have to check this out when I get home this evening. I was going to take the fronts off and double check everything tonight, since I have a feeling it was something I did.

Did you check air pressure on the summer tires when you installed them? The tires can be several PSI low before it sets off a pressure warning. Low tire pressure can effect handling.

I filled up all four tires after installation, so the pressures were good.

I actually found the issue and Rock-It Man was right, it was a shoddy install by myself. The passenger side front wheel isn't fully seated. I don't know how I didn't notice this.
