Run, don't walk away from the A8 - in Corvette or Camaro.

It CANNOT be fixed - severe design and programming flaws.

2019 Camaro SS gets the A10, which is so far, reliable.

C8 debuts in January.

Ironically I was all set to order a 2017 Krypton Green 2SS 1LE for my 40th birthday. But, alas at that time the 1LE was only available in the 1SS and Krypton Green wasn't yet official. I've always been a Camaro enthusiast, but I figured it was now (then) or never to get a Corvette. I don't regret the Corvette at all, but strangely I don't think I'd have regretted getting a 1LE either.

Thanks again for all the input today, guys. I'm really excited! I'm one who tends to go with more 'bang for the buck', but it is narrowed down to a 2SS-1LE or some variation. Hoping to get something done and have it in my garage this weekend. Will proudly post pics.

One comment I don't get is the practicality argument. Who buys a Corvette or a Camaro when practicality is a priority? They're both 2 seater sports cars, the Camaro just doesn't realize it yet. lol
Not quite. With the Camaro I can throw my young kids in the back, load a trunk full of stuff and head out to the beach for a family day and have a lot of fun doing it. You can't do that with a Corvette. I get my wife and 2 year old in the Camaro at least twice a month for a drive in to our next closest big city, about 30 min each way, to do grocery shopping. Yes, grocery shopping! But that 30 min drive always ends up being a lot of fun, and earns lots of smiles from the little one. You can also throw back packs and lunch bags in the back, easy to access while you are driving and enables nice long road trips without having to get into the trunk. Without a doubt, the Camaro is the more practical car and it enables you to do more things, with more people, than a corvette.

I do miss the M6 a bit. But the A10 makes an automatic more interesting and fun. And I have to say the auto is much more relaxing on a long trip. And now my daughters are lining up to drive the car. My oldest got the ZL1 a touch sideways Sunday. LOL Apparently the ZL1 is more fun than my Cadet lawn tractor.

But I am not completely converted. (See what I did there? ) If my Rav4 gives up the ghost I may get a manual daily.

And I think the ZL1 will be a challenge in the 1/4 as traction in 1 and 2 is very limited on the stock tires. Rolling into the throttle is the plan.

Yea, I just watched how you check the fluid. Holy crap! I agree with you about the fluid level. I think many or most Camaro auto problems stem from that. Dealers are having trouble finding good techs. I wonder if at delivery Camaros are supposed to have the fluid checked. It would make sense. And that is so easy to screw up. And more fluid is not better. The 30 second auto fluid check days are over with Camaros.

So far my ZL1 A10 is behaving nicely. But I did buy my car from a big dealer who sells tons of fast Chevys, so the techs are probably good there. Maybe.

the 2SS is a good plan. The 1LE is a great track car but the tires will crack when it gets too cold. Get the PDR, it is cool. And do the Recaros come stock on the 1LE? I hated the 5th gen Recaros, but these are more comfortable but probably not quite as good at high Gs. And the hood cover is a wrap. Just take it off and stripe away. The 1LE is a little slower in the 1/4 than the base SS. But not a big deal. But of course a loaded 1LE will push $50K. Used ZL1s can be had for low $50sK and will hold their value better than the SS. You should at least drive a ZL1 since we have helped to upsell you and money is not an object.

I would go for the unmodified and new Camaro. It's a lot easier to add stripes than to unravel problems with someone else's mods and tune.

But, as you have discovered, there's a lot of bad news about the A8. I'm holding onto my Gen5 Camaro with A6 until the A10 is implemented.

I also was looking hard at the C7, but just couldn't put that much money into a vehicle. Was never a Gen5 Camaro fan and that wasn't on my radar at all. Old technology was my thinking. Then the Alpha platform came out, and the 2016 Camaro 2SS caught my attention as a "cheaper Corvette". I too was looking at a Mustang GT PP, but the 2SS just won me over. I drove several, and pulled the trigger. I don't drive it that much, more of a weekend cruiser ( I work from home so no commute and I live in the Oregon boonies). But this vehicle is a blast to drive on the nice twists we have and I have no regrets for holding out for a C7.

Good luck on your decision

The initial depreciation is so bad though. Might as well just light 10k on fire.

Zackbo, here's my $.02. I don't track my 1LE. and probably won't ever. I hear the "if you're not going to track it, don't bother, it's unnecessary, it's a waste, etc." BUT, if you're like me and just love owning and sport-driving a true world class handling car, get the 1LE. It's just a great package. NOTHING upsets this car. It's like you're on a monorail. The electronics are great. And although the A8 is quicker because of the quick shifts, there's something that is so engaging about the M6.

Good luck.

I'm 70 and I'm still thrilled that I bought this car a year ago.

2SS 1LE is the car to get. the 1LE package is more than worth it.

I am leaning toward a 1LE now. Keeping a ZL1 on the table but can't find one close by for less than $60k. Honestly I think I would just get a C7 for that kind of money. Don't want to travel more than a few hours; my time is precious.

All the prices on the dealer websites have went up significantly the last few days. I think some Chevrolet incentives must have just expired. Do you think I will still be able to get a dealer down to at least 10% off without the factory incentives?

Just like mine!

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525104

Drive an A8 SS, 1LE, a ZL1, and a Z51 then decide. My advice.

But check ahead to find out if the dealer will let you drive a ZL1. Usually they will not let you drive a new one. The ZL1 is the 1LE feeling on steroids. And the base SS is already one of the best handling cars in the world equal to a BMW M4 in every way and better looking.

I bought my fully loaded A10 ZL1 for $61K. That is base C7 $$. And it will depreciate slower than the Vette. I have driven C7s before and its a great car. Right before plunking down my $$ on the ZL1 I sat in a Z06 and confirmed again my Camaro preference. The Vette is stronger with the ladies though.
