They turned down my initial request where I offered to ship them brand new door panels to modify. Then I offered to remove the red center section, send it to them, have them make a custom replacement, and send it back. So I'd be doing all of the work except for cutting and sewing the material. They still weren't willing to do that.

Here's the mock-up image I sent to them along with the description of the request:

After being turned down with the second request, I thought about including this image in my response email:

I LOVE how the door panel on the right looks. I would SOOOO be into that.

I agree with the whole "leather is better" thing. I don't hate suede, but it's overkill in the ZL1. I will likely swap out my steering wheel at the very least, but if I can get door panels like the one you made in the pic, I'll get those done for sure as well.

My car has the oem carbon fiber dash insert which I really like, but I wish so bad the upper dash was also wrapped in leather (or leatherette). I just think leather lined interiors look so sexy.

I actually like the suede interior parts. They have soft feel, and I think they look great.

My dealer had a ZL1 on the lot and as soon as I touched the steering wheel I knew I'd be swapping the interior when I get mine. (I've already ordered, but I would have gladly paid more for a suede delete option.)

The adrenaline red trim package on the SS seems to offer components that will swap over easily and match the ZL1. I'm thinking about swapping the dash pad, shifter knob and boot, steering wheel, knee bolsters (extension panels), and possibly the door panels.

As far as I can tell from the pictures, it looks like everything will match okay with the traditional leather and red stitching that's already present on the ZL1 seats and center console lid.

Here's some part #s (prices are from thatgmpartsguy.com)
------------------------------------------
23505184 - Dash Trim Pad ($103.73)
23472567 - Left Extension Panel ($140.00)
23472569 - Right Extension Panel ($140.00)
23365012 - Left Door Armrest ($45.51)
23365025 - Right Door Armrest ($45.51)
24276723 - Manual Shift Knob ($118.73)
(Needs updated part#, old #23365721) - Automatic Shift Knob

84097157 - Automatic Steering Wheel
84097152 - Manual Steering Wheel
84084216 - Left Adrenaline Red Door Trim Panel (Coupe)
84084160 - Left Adrenaline Red Door Trim Panel (Convertible)
84084223 - Right Adrenaline Red Door Trim Panel (Coupe & Convertible)

The only complexity will likely be with the door trim panels. It might look okay leaving the stock ZL1 panels and only switching the armrests. The sueded leather and traditional leather in the seats should tie everything together with this approach.

Another option would be to use the door trim panels from the adrenaline red package as is, but I don't think the red leather in those would look right to me.

Attachment 842571

Of course a custom door panel could be created by combining components from the the adrenaline red door trim panels and the ZL1 panels. The main piece that would be needed is the upper leather piece by the window. This piece only comes with a complete door panel.

Here's a video that shows what's involved with swapping components on the door panels:

It would be really nice if GM would just offer a non-suede option.

What do you guys think?
I totally agree. I came from a two tone Leather SS and felt the suede in the ZL1 looks like cheap cloth seats!
