1LE track temps

Thinking about getting a 1LE...

How are the temperatures of the 1LE when you take it to a trackday?
Does it have issues when stock or does it need cooling mods?

This.

Make sure you follow the break-in procedure in the performance supplement and swap to dexos2 spec oil and some good racing brake fluid and go.

This is the 1st car I have owned that needs no cooling mods for Tracking.

2000 F-Body
2003 Cobra
2013 Focus ST

All needed multiple 'fixes'. Fix the brakes, fix the engine, fix the tranny, etc...

BTW - My home tracks are Sebring and Daytona. I have run both in June/July in Florida.

You don't need dexos2.. a good 0W40 or 5W40 is what to look for.

For avoiding arguments with the Service rep / manager at the dealership while under warranty, it is advisable that you do.

Of course nothing to do with the true quality of the oil...Does not have to be Dexos certified to be good.

However, you can find good quality fully synthetic 40-Weight oils, that are also Dexos2 certified, I.E. Valvoline MST, Motul 8100-Xclean, Etc.

Change oil to proper 0W-40 or 5W-40 Dexos 2 oil and swap brake fluid for Castrol SRF and its ready to go. Mobil 1 is releasing a new LT1/LT4 specific 0W-40 oil that can be run year round without a bunch of wear additives than can clog the cats. Also there is a temp gauge for the Trans Fluid, Engine Oil, and Engine Coolant so you can keep an eye on them while tracking.

Ditto on Matthews. Ran both tracks in Florida summer, zero issues.. I think the water temp went up like 8 degrees... Which I could use now, as I'm freezing my butt off in the UK...

Short story shorter: No.

Look in my members ride thread for Cosworth data screencaps. If you want to nitpick, there's room for improvement, but for showroom stock it's damn near incredible.

Ideally oil not run a 270-275f on track for one. That being said, GM clearly engineered it to run that hot on purpose. Oil temps climb quickly to 270f, then saturate. I don't think I've ever seen over 275f in reviewing data after a track weekend. Personally, I'd like to see oil temps more in the 210-230f range.

Well... I mean we could pose this question to Camaro Engineering Team to find out if it was intentional and if so why. Secondly is there a dexos 2 oil that will not do this? If not then it seems moot until you are out of powertrain warranty.

Oh it was definitly intentional. GM had always (except for C6Z) run oil temps hot, good for power and fuel economy. The fact they made 275f the upper threshold is worth noting though.

No, any oil you put in the SS 1LE is going to get to 275f on track.
