Have the alignment checked.
I just drove home +130 miles from the dealer and I could tell the alignment on mine is FUBAR. |

Definitely the SS 1LE is a bargain of a great performance car. No you can't compare the Mustang GT to it, it lacks on handling performance, too bad. On my case I wouldn't trade my Stingray Z51 for a Camaro, I love the C7 design. But the SS 1LE kicks ass, is a great car.

After 3 years owning a C7 Z51 and 3 weeks owning a Gen6 SS 1LE, I think the two are very close performance wise. The Z51 being a bit more balanced and having lighter steering, the 1LE having more tire, being more practical (less scraping, etc) and sounding way better. I think on track the cooling package on the 1LE is miles ahead to that of any Corvette - the rear transaxle in the C7 gets mighty hot on track. A Grand Sport is of course a noticeable step up, but it is like paying 40% more for 10% benefit. In terms of performance/cost or capability/cost or fun/cost the SS 1LE dominates any other car in the world - by a long shot - in my mind. |

Thanks for the insights.
I messed up when I bought my C7 Z51, I bought it with the 8 speed. The transmission was decent for motorsport-oriented activities (since I'm a big fan of left foot braking), but for regular driving it was terrible. I love that the 1LE still has the TR6060, I never liked the idea of a 7-speed manual. I wish it had the Z51's dry sump, but since Chevy upped the wet-sump oil capacity to 10qt on the Camaro, it seems to be doing the trick. I have yet to drive an Alpha platform car, but any car enthusiast knows that it is phenomenal from reading and watching every review. Despite how good it may drive, and being aware that no car is perfect (except the 911 Turbo S, duh), these are some of the things I dislike: - the humps on the dash above the gauges. why make them so damn high? is this a retro thing? - the infotainment area design (the plastic around the screen), also wished it had the secret compartment of the C7/ATS-V - electronic e-brake, wish it had a handle - between the seats storage compartment, just as useless as the C7 - exterior styling. I still stare at regular C7s on the road, the Camaro in comparison is meh, even though I will pick up a 1LE from far away, but that's just the enthusiast in me Again, these are nitpicks, nothing to do with the driving experience. The C7 had its flaws as well, but it looked and handled so well, at the end of the day it was all forgiven... except for the stupid 8 speed. |

Anyway, I had listed pros and cons for each car, and kept the internal debate literally going on for months. In the end, I settled on the 1LE, with the major reasons being A) I could buy it new; and B) the styling. The C7 was just a bit too much for me. It looks like an exotic supercar. I love admiring the C7 when someone else owns it - it's gorgeous - but it's just too over the top for me personally. The 1LE is not stealthy by any means, but it certainly is more mainstream looking than a C7.

I can't speak to the C7 Corvette vs. 1LE but do have ~22k miles on my 2017 1LE including a couple of track events. My C6 Z51 Corvette would overheat the oil (with slicks) even after I installed a Z06 oil cooler. The Corvette was fast on the track but the 1LE is faster AND it doesn't overheat the water or the oil. The Recaro seats in the 1LE are excellent for the track and make me feel confident and safe compared to the Corvette. The Corvette would run about 4 seconds a lap slower but make me uncomfortable. The only problem is the Recaros are pretty stiff for long highway drives. I'm willing to put up with this with the understanding that it is faster than the Corvette, gets similar MPG and costs less than the the equivalent Z51 Corvette today.

I think the 1LE looks a lot more aggressive than the C7 Z51. C7 Z51 was an amazing looking sports car. 1LE looks like an over the top brute.
I considered the Mustang PP2, but in the end I opted for the 1LE for the following reasons: 1 - No Brembo brakes in the back. I'm lazy and when I go to change brake pads I don't want to be removing calipers and winding down parking brake. 1LE rear is push 2 pins replace pads, done. The fact that Ford puts sliding caliper on the rear of the PP2 is a joke and a sign that they are cheap and lazy to properly engineer the brakes. 2 - Ridiculous that the Recaro seats on Mustang are manual adjustable only. And the leather Recaros on the PP2 Premium are an additional $1500. The leather package, with power leather/suede Recaros on the 1SS 1LE is the deal of the century. 3 - No transmission, diff cooler on the PP2 - joke. The fact that Ford puts in the manual that you need to install extra coolers to track it is ridiculous. 4 - 120 lbs heavier. Coming from a 3,400lb C7 it is already a tall order to go to a 3,750lb 1LE, going to a ˜3,900lb Mustang PP2 is just too much for me. (I race cars that are 2,700lbs with me in it at the end of a race). |
