This reminds me of when I had an auto and my brother had a manual. I would tell him its almost the same experience when using the shift lever, but once he started teaching me, I realized that its a whole different animal driving a manual.

Now that I have been driving manual for several years, it would be hard for me to go back to an auto, unless it was as responsive as Porsche's PDK.

manual shift requires a clutch peddle.
gear selection is what the shiftable, computer controlled autos do.... just sayin'
and each driver has their own preference; its good to have choices in life.

I see what you mean , but am sticking to my statement . I can't see a slap shifter doing any good to an A8 ,just a matter of time before heat takes it toll.

The stick vs auto debate will only last maybe another 10 years , every new generation driver and every model car is all trending towards a version of an automatic. We all know it , the manufacturers all know it. It’s just the future. 20 years ago if I would’ve predicted you won’t be able to buy a Toyota 4runner or a Ford pick up with stick shift people would say that would never happen. The new GT500 will have automatic as well for the first time , it will sell ! it will be fast ! and people will love it enough to forget all about stick shift is dose not have. Remember the next generation of car nuts are watching street outlaws and they have ZERO sticks. On any of those shows when anybody ever sees stick shift they automatically know they’re going to win. Lol People don’t like to lose, more than they like to look cool and automatics win.

Tell me how a paddle changing gears heats up a transmission more than the computer doing it normally.

Yet a '68 Shelby GT500 KR 4 speed goes for $150k at auction, while it's automatic counterpart goes for barely $100k.

People who want stick WILL buy them - AND PAY!!!!

If GM charged a $3000 premium for the six speed I would have paid for the stick no problem.

In fact I don't think they'll go completely extinct. I think mfgs will learn that the people who want them WANT them and will start charging. Which is fine by me.

Pros:

I’ll be a dad in a few years, an automatic maybe would be easier?
I do live in the city and commute
It’s faster

Cons:
It’s an automatic
As a pony car v8 I feel like the manual is part of the spirit of the car
Nothing wrong with a 8 speed automatic. Manuals are fun but it sucks when on a heavy traffic like my area Atlanta. I don't really care if people would judge what transmission you have. Enjoy your ride!

The more a transmission heats up it effects the speed of the shift by paddle,i don't care if its by a computer or paddle heat will have its effect.

Yes because the resale value of a limited edition 50yo car relates to a not rare brand new Camaro.

That means nothing - the point is its all relative. The people who want manuals will seek them out and pay relative to their automatic counterparts, whether it's a brand new Camaro or a '68 GT500

A couple articles on the demise of the manual tranny highlighted the fact that prospective buyers today aren't necessarily shunning sticks because they don't like them, it's because they don't know how to drive them. Very few driving schools are teaching it, and the skills aren't being passed down within families for various reasons, one being obvious; mommy and daddy don't know how to drive one.

I started my crash course the same day I bought my Mazdaspeed 3 back in '07. It only came with a stick, and the sales guy took 15 minutes of his time to show me the basics in a parking lot with a ramp. I drove it home that Friday night and was battling Miami's stop-n-go on Monday, lol. Since then, I never looked back.

Most won't chance that on their own which is understandable.
