Some do the break in, some don't. I did to mine, plus oil changes at 500 and 1500 miles.

This is so amazing! I had no idea this document existed. I wonder how much carry over to my V6 M6 (non-1LE) it has for track day advice?

I followed the break-in period for the first 2000 km (1200 mi) and it took all of my will power to keep it below 4000 RPM. I changed my oil at 200 km (120 mi) and again at 2000 km (1200 mi) with fully synthetics. Absolutely no idea if it was necessary or needed, but being my first brand new car and first Camaro, I thought it was worth doing for my own peace of mind.

From what I read in the manual, the break in period is 1500 miles. But its all subjective. I do know most companies ship cars with oil additives to help break in so changing it too soon could do more harm than good. These engines aren't like the old days where there is a ton of excess manufacturing junk floating around you need to flush out.

I remember reading a thread on recommended break in by one of the forum sponsors on C5, and one of the big things highlighted for engine break in was if you do turn high rpm at all that you should then also engine brake up to your stop to draw oil back up the cylinders walls.

(While I was typing this, I found at least one of the threads I was thinking of) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ighlight=break

My '13 LFX has 97k on it and does not use any oil. I'm at 47% oil life right now and the line on the dipstick has only barely moved. Break in is definitely subjective, but you always want to do it with conventional high zinc oil. I am a believer of a harder break in though, especially since both of my college friends that also have LFX's use oil constantly (more than 1 quart between changes).
