Had to park near a building once and the only space left was on a steep grade. So instead of backing in like I should, I parked with the nose facing downhill towards a high curb and wall. I did leave room to avoid smashing into the curb with the front fascia when backing out. What I underestimated however, was how fast the car tended to roll forward in that little time before moving back. Even though I'm pretty sure I would have made it, hill assist kicked in to save the day.

I killed the car 2 or 3 times because I wasn't used to it. It was like I'm letting the clutch out, but it's not going forward like I think it should. Then I'm off gas, on brake, not quite off clutch, kill the car.....I got all curfubbled.

After I learned what to expect with HSA, I got better.

The automatics can have Hill Assist as well, I know for sure my 2016 GMC Sierra does.

Automatics do have it, at least on my SS it does.

The 5th gen Camaro automatics did not have it. My 2013 was a manual and I swapped the sensor on that car.

There's some kind of incline threshold programmed in below which it won't engage, not sure what angle it is.

Definitely takes some getting used to, but works decently well once you are. Alternatively you can always trigger the e-brake which will automatically disengage when you release the clutch & hit the gas to start moving forward.

What's real fun is when you would be on a steep hill for the first time and cars behind you ........ its truly a "crap your pants" kind of moment
Especially when they roll right up on your ass ... I love the hill assist!!!

Haha, do I know that nauseating feeling

I was scared enough even when doing it for the first time in driving school... after that, it was "handbrake time, baby" on anything steeper. The instructor wasn't keen on students destroying the clutch, and where I come from one must learn on modified cars that instructors actually own. You can imagine the four-letter word galore every time one f**ked up.

This is a usefull feature especially since we now have electric throttles that don't respond like cable operated carb setups with instant easily sensed response that you can feel.

This has literally caused me to stall twice! XD I wasn't expecting this hill start assist and because the brake was still within it's delay I stalled. I brought it over to a quiet hill to get used to it, this is def nothing like driving a big rig, fricken "hill start" LOL!

My 2ss a8 has it. It activates on the slightest incline, going forwards or backwards. Where I park at work, it is always activating backing out of the space, and it's not what I would consider much of a grade at all.

All it does is give you time to get your foot off the clutch to the gas, If you have fast feet and give it gas fast enough it will release as soon as you give it gas so it shouldn't even cause you to stall unless you are just to focused on it and not giving it enough gas.

My 2LT has it too, I think they all do. I can't see much point in an automatic, especially one with such a low first gear, but it's there.

I've been a manual driver since 1970. Love this feature, mine works perfectly and was easy to adjust to.
