TPMS Required in Drag Radials?

Guys,

Getting ready to order my wheels and tire for this summer. I'm thinking of saving a few bucks and not buying TPMS for the rear tires.

Will simply be driving to the track, Racing and driving home. Tires will be swapped for daily driving.

Will the computer freak out if there is no TPMS in the rear wheels?

No, you will get a warning. The PTM might not work as well.

OK, As long as I'm not causing the computers to freak out and stop the fun then I'm not really concerned.

They will be track tires with trips back and forth only.

You'll want to start the TPMS learn process when you switch rears to clear the fronts as well, though. These cars need to see either all TPMS sensors or none. If there are 1-3 sensors being read by the car, it'll automatically turn TC and everything else back on soon after you start moving.

I have a set of drags for my car that I did not install TPMS sensors on. Have not ran them yet. Can you please fill me in on what I need to do. I would have just installed sensors if I would known this.

There is a "Secret" method to allow full control over PTM.trac control on the C7 Vettes when the car doesnt see a tpms . They call if the Easter Egg mod... simple press the traction control button 6 times within 5 seconds and the trac control light should blink a few times. you should now be able to access all the modes. This will last until the car is shut off. Have to redo after every restart.

I am unfamiliar if they have the same item for the Camaros. Just offering the info out there.

It's pretty easy to do. Have the vehicle in "run" with engine on or off (push and hold the start button without touching the pedals to put it in run without starting the engine). From there, use the RH steering wheel controls on the steering wheel to go to your tire pressures page. Push or push and hold (sorry, I don't specifically remember) the SEL button on the steering wheel to enter TPMS learning mode. From there, I believe you can either click "dismiss" or wait for the TPMS learning mode to time out. That should clear the saved TPMS data I think. Only downside to this method is you need an El-50448 or other compatible TPMS relearn tool to re-program your sensors.

Interesting, didn't know this. Would be a better option to clearing the sensors if it works on Camaro. Will have to check it out!

Hopefully the method the vette method works. If not sounds like a good excuse to by some skinny's and leave the sensors out. If there is no sensor in any rim your ok right?

went with a set of drag radials the other day , I tuned out comp mode, and launched the car just flooring it off idle on the last amber , 1.67 60 ft . the tire sensor showed no rear pressure data and worked ok at the track .
MINE is an automatic and doesnt frak out or do the limp home mode while at the track with no rear sensor data

Correct, should be fine without any sensors connected. I did do some checking over the weekend, though. Sounds like hitting the TC button 6 times within 5 seconds from the Corvette should work on 2016+ Camaros as well (although I haven't gotten a chance to try for myself). I'd give that a shot first.

That doesn't sound right to me. TPMS monitoring happens on all 2016+ Camaros, no matter which transmission you have. You'll not notice a difference sitting still and trying to disable TC and ESC. Sitting still you can still put it into comp mode, but once you break a certain speed threshold (10 mph or something like that), it's supposed to exit comp mode and turn TC and ESC back on if it's reading 1-3 TPMS sensors, or if one of more of them is low enough to show a low tire pressure warning. It's not a power limited "limp home" mode or anything like that, it just doesn't let you turn of TC/ESC above that speed threshold.

Defiantly going to try that. Just need some dry weather. I will mount the Welds and go test it out. I will report back, I live in Oregon so it could be a while.
