Tires.........Yes, I know. Been beat to death.
Well, after a loooooooooooooooooooong night of................putt putting around in Mexico. I can no longer stand these stock Goodyears. They just aren't holding.
So, question. I need a daily driver tire mixed with a good drag/street radial tire. I already know about the R888R's. But, a forum friend was out with me last night on 325's with less power on R888R's and he still had traction issues. So, I want a 20" rear tire that will hook on roll racing. I'm looking at these...........your thoughts? And it seems they only come in a 305 which I guess is fine, but I'd prefer a 315 in the rear. Any help would be appreciated and your opinions welcomed. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mtt-3402/overview/ ^ Looking at getting these. But, not so sure they are any better than the R888R's. I got my ass handed to me by an under powered GT500 due to traction issues, so I now must focus on tires. It's that time. Good thing I didn't put up any money. haha. He had DR's on so he hooked, I didn't. I lost. I hate losing. Esp to a fkn Mustang that was 60 HP short than me. I was on pump gas tho, no E85 as I burned through my tank of E85 before the fireworks started, but still. No excuses. I need traction.

Keep in mind, I will be in April doing my cam install and Whipple, so I will eventually be at the 900 HP mark. So, I'll need a tire that will be able to handle that. Right now, I'm at 740 at the wheels.

You should of came out and played last night. The prelude to Tx2k. It was lit all night. I ran multiple bikes, 2 Camaro's, 1 392, 1 Hellcat, a few GT's, then finally ran up against someone who had their set up better than mine so.

I run around with a handful of guys up here in Dallas with 1000+ whp... They all run the R888 or R888R...
They all used to run a drag radial, but said it was to much of a compromise in sidewall strength and the car was scary in the corners. They claim the R888R is 90% of a drag radial in traction, but isnt scary during turns. The truth though is you will NEVER get a 20" tire to stick at the higher HP levels... Not enough sidewall. Gotta go down to an 18" or 17" to put the power down, especially where you are talking about going. Might be time for a 17" with a drag radial that you swap around. BUT if you want tires now, the R888R seems to be the best ticket for a compromise tire between a regular street tire and a drag radial. |

Bottom line: R888/R888R is still your best bet. If you want a drag radial, don't put it on a 20", do it "right" and get a set of 17" with an MT ET R or something. I have experience with the ET Street S/S in their 335/20 size on a C7 Z06...At 130 MPH the car changed a lane. Went back to my shop and put the Cup 2s back on. Garrett from 1320 has an ~850 RWHP Procharged C7 and he runs a 20" 305 or 315 R888 and he hooks just fine in second with TC on, and there's no need to turn it off. (Btw, keep the street racing stuff quiet) |

And the reason it sux, I just dropped $8k on my wheels so. Not using them hurts. Ideally, I agree, I need to move down a tire size and run a thicker tire, but maybe I'll give the R888R's a shot and see what happens.
