DIY Wheel scuff repair
I scuffed up my rims recently. I have the RS 20" silver spokes wheels. The scratches were pretty deep into the metal.
Tools needed: Dremel tool Dremel #952 cone shaped aluminum oxide grinding stone Dremel #413 sanding disc Materials: Body filler $12.99 Touch up paint Duplicolor Subaru 262 Quicksilver $9.99 for the Camaro OEM silver rims sand paper 1500, 2000, 3000 grit $1 sheet Wheel cleaner, degreaser First: clean, clean. clean. Clean as you go along as well. The surface must be free of grease and dust. I will focus on this one spot for the write-up. ![]() I started with the #952 cone shaped aluminum oxide grinding stone and a Dremel tool. Speed set at 5. Grind down the burrs the best you can. It doesn't have to be perfect, just rounded off the best you can. ![]() ![]() Change attachments to the #413 sanding disc and try to shape the rim. ![]() ![]() Mix up a little bit of body filler. ![]() Spread the body filler evenly over the scratched area and let dry 1-2 hours until hard. Work quickly, the body filler hardens fast. ![]() Use the #413 sanding disk to sand down the body filler as evenly and perfectly as possible. Use the sander to shape the body filler to match the rim. ![]() Sand with 1500 grit, 2000 grit and 3000 grit sand paper wrapped around a pencil. Be careful not to sand outside the repair area. If you do, you will need to polish that area after the paint has cured. ![]() Clean and remove any dust to prepare for paint. This paint matches great! ![]() Smoothly paint the repaired area. ![]() Apply the clear coat and allow to dry. ![]() I will need to polish out some scratches from the sand paper where I messed up. It's not perfect, but it looks much better! If anyone has questions I will be glad to answer them.

They look great and kudos on doing it yourself. If I have the grey RS wheels, what color code is that? I know there are the 2 finishes silver and grey split 5 spoke. Thanks a lot... |

Thanks! I think i can get better at this with some practice. I learned a lot.
Here's what you do...Autozone will let you return touchup paint that doesn't match if you haven't used much of it. That's how I figured out that the Subaru paint matched the silver wheels so well. Try to find a match at Autozone.
