Can someone clarify this wording from the Limited Warranty booklet?

Quote:
Timing belts, and other associated components required in the timing belt service replacement procedure are covered until the first scheduled maintenance interval.

Does this mean until the first maintenance interval regarding the maintenance of the timing belt at 150k or your very first 7500 mile maintenance in your scheduled maintenance booklet?

My issue is this, I had the hydraulic tensioner replaced at 28-30k miles under warranty because it was leaking and causing a loud squeal/whine. The squeal/whine returned intermittently, but no leaking at about 34k miles and I reported it then, they couldn't reproduce it. The squeal/whine has gotten worse and it's still intermittent yet they still can't reproduce it despite sending them video from it happening two weeks ago. This can usually only be heard from outside the car or the windows rolled down. It's not temperature related and it doesn't matter if the AC or heat are running.

This part appears to be covered under powertrain, but he's saying it's not, regardless of that the replacement part and labor were done less than a year ago, so isn't there some sort of part/labor guarantee for X amount of time?

I'm bewildered as to why a replaced tensioner would go back to making that whining noise so quickly. Did they use some garbage low-quality rebuilt part? Was their diagnosis as to the root cause even correct? I doubt the manual is referring is the 7500 mile service. The 150k sounds more reasonable.

In any case, I would not put up with such treatment and would want that covered. If you can find another dealer, do so. If no luck, escalate the situation to corporate and send that video. This is ridiculous IMO.

That's what I would figure as well given the length it can go before being serviced.

Th old one leaking is what they pointed out to be attributing to the noise. I monitored it closely post replacement then one day later on it popped up again. I can go elsewhere and see what happens with that as well.

Firs off a warranty replaced part carries a 12m/12k mile warranty thru the dealer independent of the vehicles current warranty status (B2B of 3y/36K as an example). So no matter what the part they replaced is to be covered by them if it has failed again under the 12m or 12k mile time frame. If you are outside of that time/mileage frame then it would fall under the B2B 3yr / 36k mile warranty or the 5yr / 60k powertrain warranty if the part is considered a powertrain device.

Time to get the dealership service manager involved and or open a case with the GM Customer Care department so they can make the final determination and or advise the dealer of how the actual warranty coverage runs.

The part of the warranty you highlighted is for a timing belt, you car doesn't have a timing belt.

To my knowledge that part isn't a powertrain warranty item but I could be wrong, I stopped writing service for GM in '16. I'd still talk to the service manager again, he has the power to do a good will repair or at least run it through the GM calculator to get them to pay for a portion of it.
