Whipple Off the shelf/ stock tune, any good?

Hi guys/gals, I am going to be ordering a Whipple 2.9 for my 1LE in a few months and wanted to see if other have been using the tune that comes with the kit that whipple sells. If so, are there any issues with what's provided, or should I just get the tuner kit and have it tuned after install? (I want to do my own install regardless.)

This is the only performance mod I intend to put on the car.

2017 Krypton SS 1LE.

Have it tuned by CMS. He isn’t all that far from you. The Whipple tune won’t be nearly as good.

needless to say, any boosted (from the factory) applications are pretty conservative. For a reason of course.

i had added a cold air box as well as the whipple and the factory tune was very rich and it showed detonation on the dyno. I had a local kid who doesn't have a lot of experience go step by step to remove it and it ran a lot better. I will say their customer service is great. The expansion tank in the kit was cracked. They sent a new one out the next day. They also sent the wrong thermostat, same thing next day a new replacement in the mail. We returned the wrong stuff back to them. Other than those issue its an awesome deal. I blow the tires off at 20 mph or 120 mph....

So all you'd change is the tune?

That is the key sometimes, If it's done right.
The tune to match the build. I had mine tuned by a "professional" company (so they advertise) I had it re-tuned by a "PRO". I think his neck still hurts from shaking his head so much. My car runs GREAT now, all from a correct tune. (dyno numbers coming in spring)

yes the factory whipple tune had detonation as well as a very rich tune. I live at sea level so that may have had something to do with their rich tune. I also added a cold air inductions air box. Which took all of twenty minutes. I also ordered the sound delete option which removed some weight from the front end of the engine. a plus for sure.
I had a kid with little experience and he put a better tune in it. The bottom end torque will blow the tires off the car. It's so fun to drive. Just need to get it to hook.

The Whipple calibrations are pretty good, but they will not work when combined with any aftermarket parts like cold air kits and LT headers.

I offer Remote tuning services and can take the calibration to the next level and tune for aftermarket parts to get your combination dialed in.

All you need is JRE, custom tuning, a wide band AFR gauge and Free Logging software from SCT/Bullydog and your on your way to a perfect tune.

Ted- I spoke with you a few days ago. This is wht I plan to do and may be making the drive from Cali out to your shop this year. My sis is next door in NY, so what the heck, right? Once I have timeframe, I’ll order the kit up. FYI, Whipple said the CARB certification should be approved in about 3months.

If I were to do hp tuners through you, what do I need to buy? Also, how do you recommend logging? Mexico pulls in 1:1 gear? I like your system, I think it's great. I'm not at that stage yet, but I like to have all my chickens in a row.

I would set you up with HPtuners cable, AEM AFR gauge, gauge pod.

Contact me when ready at tedj@jannettyracing.com

Thank you

Ted.
