<<My argument is that the Camaro has less visibility, but none of that visibility has an actual impact on driving the vehicle. It simply seems like you can't see out of it. I can drive my ZL1 at any time of the day or night in heavy traffic and zigzag in and out of lanes without a worry at all. And it is because I can see everything that I need to see to operate the vehicle safely. Just because it has less visibility doesn't mean it doesn't have enough visibility.>>

Exactly. The first time I checked out the Gen 6 was early 2017. I got in and got right out. Never test rode it. I thought it was awful. Couldn't see out of it. When I checked out the 1LE last April, I decided to be a little less stupid. I actually ADJUSTED everything and went for a test ride. Bought the car on the spot. Is visibilty one of its strong points? No. But it's absolutely totally manageable. And, I'm 5'3", so there's that. Adjust the seat and the mirrors PROPERLY, and use the camera. Problem solved.

EVERY car has compromises, but bang for the buck, performance vs. visibility? Not even worth any discussion.

Eh I don't think it's weak. I still think the GT is an amazing car. Even though there are faster cars out there I'd take the GT over any of them if i had you know 500K laying around lol

Umm, I didn't say it was needed, but I'll use what the car offers me.

Seeing as how backup cameras are pretty much standard these days I would say that you're wrong. Same with blind spot indicators. They are almost standard equipment. Are they absolutely necessary? Nope. I use them on my ZL1 but I also turn my head and check. Visibility is not a "problem" in these cars.

I actually am not shocked the GT was beat by the ZR1. It's got more power, more torque and they have had the whole lifespan of the C7 to create the perfect Vette. The Vette has always been able to chomp away at supercar performance.
Three points

1)
-------weight------power-----lb/hp
GT----3054 lbs---647 hp----4.72 lb/hp
ZR1---3560 lbs---755 hp----4.71 lb/hp

2) Any Ford fan will tell you torque means nothing...

3) more power, more torque, better power to weight means nothing if it can't be controlled. As shown in 2014

4) ZR1 driven by an engineer. GT driven by a professional

5) GT msrp $400,000+, ~ZR1 $130,000

6) The GT has a much more sophisticated, DOHC engine that only displaces 3.5L

I saw something recently that said the weight Ford was quoting for the GT is dry weight. It’s really more in the 3,350-3,450 range for comparison purposes.

Like in any vehicle, the cam helps in tight spaces and is certainly nice to have, but very often I back up without glancing at it because I'm so used to not having one. It really isn't a problem.

1. The GT actually weighs something around 3300 IIRC. (Car & Driver estimates it 3250) the dry weight is 3050 pounds.

2. Good thing I know torque is actually important lol

3. Valid point,

4. Very valid point can't argue that

5. Also true. Now I know this comes off as a fanboyish response, but the GT truely does have a uniqueness and specialness to it. As we have seen with the last gen GT actually increasing in value.

6. I thought a few pages back we decided the DOHC weren't more sophisticated than OHV

Like I mentioned, it didn't shock me the ZR1 bested the GT. I think the ZR1 is going to best just about anything that stands in it's path. Same thing happened in 06 IIRC, the GT came out and I think it was the C6 Z06 that was able to match it's perfromance. And the 09 ZR1 put a hurting on it too.

Wake me up when Ford's half a million dollar mid-engined supercar is faster around the track than a Corvette that is 1/4 of the price and has a front-engine pushrod motor configuration on a 7 year-old platform.

Looks like I'll be sleeping for a while.
