You’ll see a V6-Ecoboost variant before that mars mission..

390 CI is about 6.4L, so you would have to make it a pushrod engine so it can fit. That would be an easy 485HP (that's what the 392 Hemi makes), and you wouldn't have to rev the engine to the moon before you get to the fun part. Just make it all aluminum rather than an iron block (the 392 is iron), and it would be about the same size and weight as the Coyote, only you get torque from beginning to the end of the RPM range.

Then you can sell the GT390 as a trim level, and have an optional Bullitt appearance package on top of that.

Just don't paint mine Eddie Bauer Edition Explorer green, please.
No no no NO! That would mean the Bullitt would have a "truck" engine and that is just unacceptable!

I don't recall any variant of the 390 used in the Mustang being used in a truck. I do recall the 1st 390 being used in a Mercury though. Sounds like it was a car engine adapted for trucks to me.

That doesn't sound very "athletic". LOL. But seriously any increase in HP is always welcome. At least it comes in black as well because I don't like the green.

We should set up a free counseling for the Mustang trolls here? We'll provide non-threatening GMO-free gluten-free snacks, a quiet area, tissues, gentle relaxing music, maybe sounds of the ocean...and we'll tell them that they're the real winners.

So the new power and better tires with magride got its butt whooped and only beat the outgoing Mustang GT by .32. And still lost to the base SS by .82 sec. on a short track. The excuses will be flying now.

Here's the relevant #s:

2018 Mustang GT Perf Pack1 - manual trans:
0-60: 4.4s
1/4 Mile: 12.6s (no mph shown in this comparison)
Figure 8: 24.0s @ 0.83g ave
Streets of Willow Lap time: 1:23.97s

2018 Camaro SS 1LE - manual trans
0-60: 4.1s
1/4 Mile: 12.5s (no mph shown in this comparison)
Figure 8: 22.9s @ 0.91g ave
Streets of Willow Lap time: 1:20.67s

2016 Camaro SS (base) - manual trans --- for reference only from prior SS vs. M4 Head2Head that MT conducted
0-60: 4.1s
1/4 Mile: 12.4 @ 115.8mph
Figure 8: 24.1s @ 0.83g ave
Lateral Acceleration: 1.01g ave
Streets of Willow Lap time: 1:23.15s

It's worth noting the Mustang pulled ahead after the 1/4 mile, completing the 1 mile drag race (on what appeared to be salt flat or dirt flat) at 157mph vs. 151mph for the Camaro. They did the normal acceleration tests at the test track they always use, but went to this salt/dirt flat for the 1 mile drag race.

Overall, they were not impressed with the Mustang GT Perf Pack1 chassis dynamics or magnetic ride control tuning. Its Streets of Willow Lap time was about halfway between the base SS and the V6 1LE. The 12.6s 1/4 mile time matches Car and Driver's acceleration results (slightly slower than ALL magazine tests on the base SS that I'm aware of), but good power/gearing allow it to pull ahead above speeds of ~120mph.

Great show and really good video footage on both cars! The Mustang refresh styling is growing on me after watching that.

Was the GT the manual or auto?

So what will the excuses be this time? 3 tests and the Mustang is slower in all three.
