Huge loss

My 2016 2SS fully loaded 51,562 after taxes off the lot

2018 8,800 miles mint condition no dings no nothing and the Ford dealer offered me 27k

At that rate in 2 more years the car will worth less than a used Hyundai

It's horrific

Check a 1 or 2 year old Bmw from list price and you'll see the Camaro or other American cars fair pretty good compared to a bimmer. Since I don't have to worry about the resale value of my Camaro it doesn't bother me. But if you get in a bind and pay too much for your Camaro then it does mean a shit load to you. So when you buy try to steal it, if its not the deal you want, walk away and buy something else, but you may just loose on that one to and it could be slow, no fun to drive, gets no attention, just a shitty ride. So, have fun with the Camaro, mod the shit out it and if have to trade it in, well that would suck.

So assuming you paid full retail? You are also including taxes & assuming all fees your State charges to make what a Ford dealer offered you sound as bad as possible? You can go to another dealership & see what they offer. Honestly, I always just try to see who is the least difference. Wouldn't care if my trade in was valued at $5 so long as the what I am actually spending is less than at other dealers.

Just because a dealer offers a number does not mean they are setting the value for your car. Maybe they already have a couple on the lot(or within the dealer network) & are just going to send it to auction? Or maybe they are going to try to get $33/$34k out of it retail & make $6k off of it.

All dealerships do things differently. Some focus on selling primarily new units while others make better money on used. Among other ways.

This may sound stupid but my life goal is to own one of each generation so that means that the '17 that I have and bought specifically because it represented the 50th Anniversary will stay in my stable for as long as I can keep it.

That means I have 5 to go and the 1st gen will be the hardest and most costly to acquire

That also means I have to realize life goal #2 which is somewhere to put 6 or 7 Camaros by the time I realize the dream.

Land and to build a house and shop to keep them all is life goal #2.

I love having goals and priorities to work towards! Maybe I'm just Camaro obsessed?

I had a Gen 4 when I was in college and boy I want that one back.

Keep dreaming folks, it makes all this work we do to feed our obsessions so fun!

Sounds about what can be expected. The dealer would purchase from you for 27k then put it on the lot for 30k, more than likely sell for 29k. In the future buy used let somebody else take that major initial depreciation hit.

Dealers around here are listing 2017 2SS verts at $44k with under 5k miles, you just have to work the dealer on the trade in or work them on the purchase price to make you whole, whatever makes it easier for them. Personally, I buy what I like and don't worry about depreciation. Cars are not an investment, you are going to lose 50% of your value in the first 3 years on most any car you buy new whether it be American or Japanese. If I wanted a car that wouldn't depreciate I would buy a 2010 911 C4S hardtop manual tranny. Those are at 50% or less of what they were new and will start to go back up or at worst stay flat if the options are right.

I bought a new/demo 17 SS Vert in late November with a MSRP of 48.7 and 1,640 miles for 34.5 plus ttl. Gotta wait til end of year or get stung.

Most new cars drop around 22% of their value in the first year. Comparing it to your FJ really isnt fair, because they are very sought after to the point of almost collectible status. Buying a brand new car ia one of the worse financial things you could do. But hell, you only live once. Lol

Don't think yours is optioned like the couple I have seen. Their MSRP was closer to $55k, selling with 3-4k miles for $44k which is still decent but I have a feeling those dealers will still have them come Spring.

Buying slightly used is totally the way to go! I got my 17 2SS 6m, mag ride sunroof and nav with 1100 miles and certified almost a year ago for $34K

27K is a little low for his 2ss, he should try somewhere else.
I was just offered $31k for mine (considering trading for a slightly used 17' ZL1). I have 10k miles.

I never just let random dealers appraise my car. I go in with a fair market value number in mind for my trade. If they want to work a deal, they'll work with you.

jwestm definitely paid too much. He must have bought his 6gen when they first came out.

I just bought New because New was cheaper than used with all the year end discounts.

I paid $31.7k out the door, against an MSRP of $45k... used ones with 20k miles were asking more than I paid for new.

In my experiences with American Cars you will break even roughly 2 years into making payments unless you’ve put negative equity into it.

Good luck enjoy your ride don’t pamper it for the next owner...
