...As the CEO of Ford cancels development of the S650 Mustang...

I guess the S550 Mustang will soldier on for a number of years (just like the Challenger on it's ancient MB platform) !!

total sales don't matter as much as profit per unit to gm. the Camaro isn't going anywhere

Doesn't that work out to over 2,000,000,000 (2 Billion Dollars)
in sales in just one year?
At about 68,000 cars.
800 less cars per month than Mustang.

There are plenty of Cadillac, Chevy and Buick models that sell way less than Camaro that should bite the dust first. Compared to a lot of GM models, the Camaro is overall a much better seller.

Ferrari only sold 8,400 cars last year, they have announced they are closing their doors.

Cadi and Buick are really popular in China..if the choice had to be made between killing the Camaro (popular in the US) and a Buick model (popular in China/Asia)..the Camaro would die.

GM reported a 3.3 percent drop in sales in December, driven by a decline in lower-margin fleet sales to government agencies and rental car companies.

GM's retail sales were up 1.8 percent.

not selling camaro

Maybe its time for the Camaro to go. I have a 2017 Camaro LT and I love it. It is great. For me. I love the styling, history and power. Its 2 door and it suits me fine. But that being said, The back seats are worthless. I cannot take my parents and friends in the car and drive to the beach like the challenger and mustang can. The Camaro needs more color options: orange, green metallic, brown metallic, maroon, etc…The price point is too high. They need a stripped down base V8 for $29,995 to $ 32,000. The Camaro produces too much emotion. Who cares anymore Camaro or mustang? I don’t. The Challenger sells because of its commercials, (marketing) affordability, and heritage. Plus your wife and friends or kids can jump in the challenger in the back seat and you drive to the beach. Bring back the 2 door Chevelle, 114 inch wheelbase, no visibility issues, full back seat, decent trunk space, and have plenty of engine and color options, and have a stripped, not equipped V8 for $29,995…Then you’ll sell 100,000 of them a year no problem!

  • The Mustang cannot seat four adults comfortably. It's only marginally better than the Camaro, maybe two inches more leg room in the rear, if that. A friend of mine had a MY18 as a business rental, had four people in it out of need. Said it was absolutely impractical and uncomfortable and was happy he only had to drive out to lunch.
  • You may have a point with Oragne, but as far as green goes 2017s had Krypton. No one buys Brown, maybe a couple Dodge guys, Ford doesn't even have it. They do have the Beautiful Crimson Red (Maroon), but the Garnett Red on the Camaro is stunning as well.
  • The Camaro is at the same prices point as a Mustang at this point. The main difference being that Chevy folks get a few creature comfort and electronic toys standards, and Ford peeps have to shell out $2K for it. And when they do, it's exactly $37,995 including delivery for both cars. The Mustang is no longer a better value, that's the bottom line. $30-$32K gets you V6, even in the Ford.
  • The Challenger does not sell, sold less units than the Camaro. And their range is bigger than the Chevy's.... Demon, Hellcat, SRT, Scat, RT, GT, SE... Still don't sell as many.

They already tried something similar with the G8 and SS. 4 doors, but whatever. The Camaro is a sports car now. If you want a family hauler, go buy a sedan. I consider the Camaro a 2 seater with a bonus rear seat for my 5 year old or a shelf for carrying a gym bag.

I am so tired of hearing will the whining about back seat room. Nobody ever complains that a Porsche 911 has worthless rear seats. That's because people buy the 911 for performance and for sunny day fun.

The Camaro is essentially an affordable American 911.
