Long story short, passenger seat now has a puddle-looking ripple in the leather of the seat and smells like straight tequila-urine.
Now besides breaking it off with that girl .....What do I do now? I tried soaking it up when it happened with paper towels but she didn't tell me until we got where we were going, and it was A LOT boys, lemme tell ya. Car is a 2016 Camaro 2SS with the Kalahari colored heated and cooled seats. Do I get the car detailed? Replace the entire seat? Any help is appreciated. P.S. This post is about 7-8 hours after the incident |

Try it with lemon-water and or vinegar-water solution. First at an area which is not that obvious. After that the Aftermarket has some good products. See Meguiars Gold Class Leather Conditioner or similar.

The leather is only part of the problem. It no doubt soaked into the cushion and maybe got down into the electronics inside the seat - heater element, cooling fan, circuit boards, electrical connections......
Not trying to scare you just letting you know what could possibly be ahead of you here. Problems and symptoms with moisture in electronics don't always show themselves over night when it happens. If you're handy I'd remove the seat, flip it over, and check to see if it soaked through. It's all open underneath so you can see the underside of the seat cushion and all the electronics and components. If you're not comfortable removing the seat yourself you may want to take it to your dealer and have them inspect it. I know the explanation will be embarrassing but better to check everything out now than to be in an accident with someone sitting in the seat and the passenger occupant sensor malfunctions. Even if it didn't leak into the electronics, the seat cushion is most likely toast. You'll never get the fluid out, and no matter how well you clean the leather, you'll always have the effervescent aroma of straight tequila urine in the car..... especially when your passenger turns on the cooling fans. The cushion can be replaced without replacing the entire seat. Whatever you do, if you know her address, send her the bill. Last edited by fastball; 01-05-2018 at 07:13 AM. |

So she literally just unloaded without warning or ...were you taking some corners in spirited fashion or giving it more than 50% throttle?

Go to petsmart and get something specifically for dog or cat urine. It has enzymes in it that break down the urine and make the smell go away. I would test spray it in an inconspicuous area frist. I have no doubt it will work on carpet, but I would go easy on the leather (spray a bit on a towel and wipe on).

How much would it cost to replace the seat? Do you think any would have made it down to the carpet through the cushioning?

Like I said, if you can take it out yourself do that first. Don't even bother trying to clean your leather. Like I said, at minimum you need to have the bottom seat cushion replaced so forget trying to clean/condition/restore the leather. But take it out, inspect everything underneath, check your carpet, and go from there. |
