Cold winter starting ?

It’s only been a week since I drove my 18 Camaro. But I was thinking of starting it and driving around just a little bit. It’s only like 15 degrees in N/W Indiana. Will cold winter starting cause any damage to the motor? It only has 300 miles on it.

Nope, just let it warm up a little. I always let the RPM's settle out to normal idle conditions after a cold start at any time of the year before I ever move it into gear. I do this with all of my cars. I cringe when someone starts a car and immediately starts reving it or something.

If you driving it make sure to take him out for at least 1-2 hours so engine gets really warm and the condensation in the exhaust evaporate.

Cool. Thanks guys. Our Camaro SS has full synthetic oil, correct? That should also protect the engine on cold starts ?

It has changed to a full synthetic vs the blend.

If it’s synthetic blend. That’s pretty good too

I would also be concerned about driving on the Goodyear runflat tires; I thought that cold weather (under 40F) can cause cracking in the rubber. The summer only tires on the SS are not intended to be used for cold weather driving.

You are referring to Service Bulletin 13-03-10-001D

Here are some more.

You're better off not starting it at all. The SS comes with the Goodyear runflats which are summer only tires. Running these tires in the cold weather is a huge no-no and your car is a risk to others as well. Most winter parkers just leave their car for the duration and start her up come spring time.

To the original question. Yes you can start it up with no issue considering it's still within the temperature threshold for both 5W/10W-30 oils. If you choose not to heed the warnings and drive around, try to drive her for atleast 30 minutes to evaporate the crap that's been sitting in the pan.

Thanks for the advice guys. Can I hook up a battery tender to the connections under the hood? Used for jump starting the car. I Don’t feel like dicking around with the battery in the trunk.

I posted in a couple other threads too about that.

Yes, no problem hooking up the charger to the under hood battery connections.
