Made the 1000 mile round trip to Willow Springs International Raceway ( Big Willow )
Hey guys ! Just wanted to share my fun experience at Willow Springs Raceway last week with Speedventures in Lancaster California. What a track. After years of watching automotive reviews there I had a chace to make the trek out there and take a run for myself. I ran in the advanced group and amazingly the ambient temps were in the high 20s on the way to the track from the hotel and it warmed up to 32 by session one. The drivers meeting was packed with warning about letting the tires warm up and to watch the infamous turn 3...........AND.......low and behold we had 3 offs in session 1, one of which required a tow in that resulted in a black flag and everyone returning to the pitts. The second and third sessions were amazing but the temps were at 36 and 40 degrees respectively. The car did amazingly well and I went out there with a fresh set of rear tires ( after only 3869 ). The trick s let the Good Years warm up and they stick like glue even right at freezing.
Willow Springs is FAST !! Like crazy fast. My average speed on my fastest lap was 103.3 mph ! Not technical at all but still very fun. Its what I call a power track. Awesome for big heavy powerful cars like the ZL1. Carmella ( my ZL1) was in her element. We topped out on the straight at 144 mph ( same as the ZR1 who was taking journalists out for hot laps ). Turn 9 is a mystery that I will need some practice on , but I did my best. https://youtu.be/duD2JH76U_0 I start after a GT3 but he started chucking big rocks at me so I backed off. https://youtu.be/1SnN7qmdQ20 https://youtu.be/l3cOj0u0fmQ https://youtu.be/M1wKzJmoqkQ |

Out of curiosity, did you trailer your car out there or drive it?
I was considering making a 1000 trip to a track right when all of these trailering threads were started so now I'm doubting myself.

NOPE !! Im hardcore........I drive it there and home. ![]() all jokes aside, to each his own. These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed imho. Plus it makes it so much more fun. Its like an adventure to drive a 650 hp car 1000 miles. |
