If you go into Race mode PTM, then yes, you will still have the nannies watching over you a bit.

Exactly. They wouldn't have put line lock and launch control inside Race mode if they didn't intend it to be used for the drag strip. At stock power, tune, and tires, I'm not seeing any benifit with launch control if you're looking for the fastest pass, but if you're bracket racing or something, where running the same time consistently over and over again is crucial, I can see how it would make your job much easier.

I will be on the strip with my 18 Zl1, stock with DRs for the first time this weekend and my intention was to use track mode with no launch control because TRACK mode RACE PTM is where the most engine power is available, according to my HP Supplement. We have a good track but the elevation is 2300 ft....really want to break 12s. Thanks

As for settings, I usually run Sport mode with everything off. I've not been back to the track since learning about this Competitive Mode within Sport, but I'd suspect it to perform exactly the same as it has with everything off, because street testing has shown me identical results. I will definitely try Competitive Mode at Camarofest next weekend, because it's much faster to double tap than hold for 7 seconds, or however long it is. As for the HP manual stating different power levels, that only applies to the different PTM settings within Track Mode. If you put it in Track without entering PTM, you have all the power available. You have all the power available no matter what setting you are in when in Sport. I believe all the power is available in Tour as well, but the trans doesn't go into performance shift mode. I doubt that would affect your drag times, but I like how performance shift drops the gears to help slow you down when you start getting on the brakes. If you use Track, Race PTM, you'll likely have to use line lock to do a burnout, as there are still a bit of nannies watching over you. Even if it will let you do one with no issues, you might as well use it, since it's right there, and will save your rear brakes. If you've never used it, I'd recommend trying it somewhere before going to the track, because it's a bit cumbersome. You will also want to hit the buttons to release the brakes well before you want to end the burnout, because it is slow to release the brakes, and you want the car to roll forward a bit while still spinning, to make sure you clean off the rubber you just piled up in front of your rear tires while doing a standing burnout. I also set my suspension to stay in Tour, no matter the drive mode, and my exhaust to stay in Track. Be sure to drop air pressure in your rear tires. That should be all you need to accomplish your goal. Good luck! I know you'll have a blast!!

What he said! I have much success with the competitive driving mode out of sport. To me it is quite clearly the mode with the least nanny interference.

Suspension in TOUR? Exhaust in TRACK? Please enlighten me. Looking how to configure this right now with no luck.

So I’ve been playing in track mode ptm race. LC can’t be disabled here. In sport as u say above I see now that LC is already disabled. This is how I like to race. I control the launch not the car. Still trying to figure gore out the exhaust and tour thing you mentioned.

So it seems like lock is only available in race mode. This means going to this mode for your burnout and then switching to sport as you mentioned above before staging....that’s a lot of thinking concentration and button pushing in a few seconds!

Sorry about the consecutive post but this is very exciting now..lol. Got the procedure down pat now. Here’s my plan...exhaust and suspension set as you stated.
1 approach burn out box in TRACK PTM RACE 2 set up line lock and do burn out 3 roll out of burn out 4 turn nannies on 5 switch to sport mode 6 double tap nannies 7 roll into staging 8 foot on brake and hammer down on green 9 should be below 12s Appreciate you guys doing all the leg work so I can just play

Glad you found the settings and seem to have most of it figured out. Like you said, it's too cumbersome to fool with line lock unless you're going to use PTM and launch control. Even then, line lock could be more simple to use than it is. That's why I have always just held the TC button for 7 seconds or whatever it is, to turn everything off, and just do an old fashioned burnout using one foot on the brake and one on the gas. Then simply stage it and go. Now that I've played with Competitive mode while in Sport mode, I think that's going to be the quickest and easiest way to get the car ready. It literally takes less than a second.

Also, I understand there is a launch control available while in Sport, Competitive Mode, if you want to use it. I've not tried it yet myself, but it is supposed to be the simple launch control that is built into the SS. Stand on the brake really hard and very quickly slam the throttle wide open, and the RPM should level out at whatever it's set for, then simply release the brake to launch. I think the custom LC in Race PTM might actually work pretty well with DR, but I haven't been able to find a setting that consistently works for the stock tires, compared to me just launching it myself.
