Why not just call a dealer's parts counter and see of the ZL1 1LE shows a different part number from the standard ZL1 for the rear deck lid?

I am sure GM and any representative of GM needs to cover themselves by saying that you "have to" change trunks to avoid any negative press, but honestly non-ZL1 1LE's are running around with these wings already. On the streets, on the tracks...have not seen any at the drag strip yet, but why would you want one for that? It just depends what you use your ZL1 for. I have not heard any reports of issues yet, so considering how many people have them already, I would say the risk is very low. For me the biggest question is the cost...$$$

Can anybody post a part number of their 2018 trunk lid? I believe that 84021621 is the part number for the 2017 from ThatGMpartsguy website. Unfortunately, 2018 is not up yet in their database.

https://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/oem-p...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D

I think we can put this to rest if we can get the part number from a 2018.

I've read that the extra downforce at the rear is a stability issue at high speed unless you also add the front downplanes as well.

Any comments on that?

It makes sense. If making a ZL1 1LE was as simple as putting a big wing on a ZL1, I'm sure that's all GM would have done.

The cars that I have seen with the 1LE wing did not have the dive planes, however, to get the full 300lbs of downforce they do work as a set.

Keep in mind, the standard ZL1 was plenty stable around the "Ring" (and other tracks tested) before the ZL1 1LE even existed and they are using the same powerplant (LT4), same body and has a pretty large front spoiler of it's own (and a rear spoiler as well)...outside of factory racers running at the max, I think we will be fine

#17-NA-310 - Information on ZL1 1LE High Wing Rear Spoiler Installed on non ZL1 1LE Models

Here's some text from the bulletin:

"The ZL1 1LE high wing rear spoiler uses the same mounting holes as vehicles equipped with a stanchion spoiler. Installation of the ZL1 1LE high wing rear spoiler requires internal reinforcement to the decklid due to the downforce the high wing provides. 2018 Camaro decklids are produced with the internal reinforcement. Addition of the ZL1 1LE high wing spoiler may cause the decklid to buckle on a 2016/2017 Camaro unless the decklid is replaced with a 2018 reinforced decklid."

Well that's that. Well boys lets see who will be the first to go fast enough to buckle their trunk lid. Think of it as a right of passage.

The owner of ACS composites told me the part numbers for 2018 ZL1 1LEs and 2017 ZL1s trunk lids are the same. Another forum sponsor also removed the liners of both car models, and the cracking/molding, washers, and bolts were identical. Tons of people have installed them on non-1LEs and tracked them, and we have yet to see any evidence of damage show up on the interwebz.

I still call it marketing hype, and trying to keep the aero package exclusive to the 1LEs. Could be wrong but that’s just my opinion based on all evidence I have seen to this point.

Oh I absolutely believe you. It’s valuable information. But if the part numbers are the same, and they are visually identical.....the TSB isn’t exactly gospel IMO.

If they wanted to keep them exclusive, they would have required a VIN to order them and or priced them accordingly.

That’s possible. They are definitely priced out of most people’s budgets already.

I whole heartedly admit that having a “hunch” based on a couple pieces of data that are in contrast to a GM published TSB is strange....but just being honest. I just don’t see why we are to believe the ‘17 trunk will buckle if the part numbers are the same, and the design/bracing are visually identical.
