Engine oil priming
Im close to pulling out the car after being stored all winter. I have seen some people priming the engine oil on their corvettes after sitting for a while by pressing the gas pedal down and pushing the start button letting the engine crank over for a few seconds without it firing up to prime the engine with oil before starting. I am wanting to know if the same process works with the Camaros. Thanks

Yes. Works for most modern cars.

At least 85% accelerator pedal is required, so pedal to the metal.

I rarely drive my car, so it sits a lot... For clarity, is this the procedure?
- Push accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold it - Push and hold start button for several seconds (to prime the oil, guessing 3-5 seconds, car will crank but not start) - Let go of start button, after cranking stops, let off the accelerator pedal - Start car normally (with "primed" oil system) Please let me know if this is correct, I had never heard of this before, but plan on using this after long sits (1+ months)...

I use this procedure for other applications too. Checking compression, clearing fuel fouled spark plugs (technically why is there), checking flywheel to starter tooth engagement, starter volt drop test. Im pretty sure i explained this procedure in one of the many slow crank threads we have. |
