My A8 is finally giving up after over 180 passes

Well I was data logging earlier in the week and the tranny has been acting up since I hurt the motor last year. Its slipped so bad I got a Onstar notice for the 3rd time. I got one last year when the motor broke and on that pass it slipped then. I Tvs Throwdown at Atlanta Dragway.

I'm just not sure yet. I will probably try and order a new gm (rebuilt) next week. I thought about sending mine out to 42 autosports but don't know yet. I really can't believe this one took the punishment I dished out. I doubt anyone on this board has made 180 passes down the track in the same car. I would have made more but the motor just couldn't handle it either. After all I didn't race after the end of July or I'd had easily over 220 if I hadn't broke a couple ring lands and pushed the rear seal out of the crank. It just took a while at the end of the year to get it all back together and by then the weather turned to shit in the Midwest as you know. Supposed to dyno tomorrow if the tranny will make it through 4 or 5 pulls. I forgot about that, probably had about 50 pulls on the dyno over the last 3 years also. Haha more punishment.

That is pretty good considering the mileage and useage.

I know and I wish I'd backed off the power earlier and probably would have saved the motor and tranny.

I'm only at about 70 passes and probably 30 dyno pulls altogether. Not the same kinda beast as yours but no issues yet. The A8's are a good tranny just the GM Tuning on them is deplorable along with the band-aid fixes.

Welp, it sucks that you're at this point but it does make me feel a bit better about the longevity of the transmission. I was just going to post asking about it. Was your transmission all stock except for the TCM tune?

The trans was stock and we never changed anything in the tune.

That says a lot about the reliability of that transmission.
And I’m willing to bet there isn’t too many more people or teams, if at all, that have accomplished your number of runs on a stock transmission. That’s a lot.!!!!
I would contact RPM.
I would be willing to bet they could build a near bulletproof rebuild

Good luck with it.

We were on the dyno Saturday and the tuner made some changes to the trans tune. I haven't had a chance to see if it made any difference or not but hopefully I'll find out this weekend.
