What a lot of people are not considering is that they take them there to fine tune the suspension. It is one of the best tracks for that purpose. It isn't just a hero lap. Very impressive engineering from GM.

I literally just got dumber reading such a ridiculous article. What this fool doesn't understand is such test mean everything as far as performance measurements. I guess he just ignores the laws of physics. The ring is a test of almost all aspects of performance on this car whether it be acceleration, its handling of inertial effects, top speed, etc. The most laughable line was "don't buy a car based on ring times alone." Seriously?!! Who would buy a car for that reason alone? What an idiot.

To me, to say the 'ring means nothing is to insult Germany and all of Europe. I think he will have no air in his tires to be sure.

Those are the same clowns that spin their cars into crowds at meets. Nuff said

The ZL1 1LE is the performance buy of the decade. More than 16 seconds faster around the uber track than the 'uber' GT350R. Ouch!

Ding ding ding. The Ford forums are the only forums I can't spend more than 5 mins on because of the fanboyisms going on over there. I'm on this forums, Vette, GTR, and McLaren forums. I have yet to find anything even remotely close to the crap that is spewed over there on the Ford forums. You are right. It's either Ford does it and it's the best or it's Ford didn't do it, so therefore it sucks. If it ain't got a blue oval on it, they hate it. And that is the reason why I love every fkn Mustang I smoke in my Z06. EVERY time. EVERY race. And i never stick around for those ass hats to even tell me nice run. I smoke their ass then go on about my day.

Eh who cares. By the same token hp ratings don't matter. 0-60 times don't matter.

People in the market for a somewhat pricey new performance car want to know these things so that's why mfrs give the info.

I think its funny that the "'Ring is simply a skill of memorization"! You can say that about any track. And if thats all it took, then a Miata would be just as fast as a Radical. Also, yes, put a professional driver in the car to extract its fastest laps. Dont put someone like me in it, who gets on a track maybe once a year, and expect me to get then most out of its capabilities. Even if you dont want to compare the ZL1 1LE lap time to other manufacturers, at least use it to compare within GM's own model line-ups. This will give you an idea of the engineering accomplishments/advancements between models, model generations/platforms/trim levels etc. Of course 'Ring times arent everything, but they shouldnt be discredited and not taken into consideration. This logic would also mean that the VIR lightning lap testing is usless as well.

The Jack who wrote the article seems to have written a useless piece. What a job and get paid for it; to write something that does not matter.

On second thought,

Maybe I should skip the trip to Germany and build a new garage for my new toys.

The ring is a proving ground. If a car can last multiple consecutive hot laps around the ring without brake fade or overheating, excessive tire wear, engine/trans/diff overheating, or broken equipment, it won't fail anywhere. The suspension was developed/tuned at the ring, but it was also developed at the 260 turn Back of the Dragon, Milford, VIR, MRLS, Willow Springs(I believe Al said Willow, but I may be wrong.), and I guarantee it was tested on Michigan roads. It has been designed to dominate the track, but the left in some street comfort and drivability. In fact, they said that they kept the heavy heated/cooled front seats, back seats, radio and 10 speakers, dual mode exhaust, and sound deadening all so the driver can enjoy the drive home just as much as the track day he just dominated. I can't wait for the MT Ignition and Best Driver's Car videos featuring the 1LE. And I really can't wait for the Z/28...
