I would just add that if you decide to keep your foam, keep in mind that the torque specification for the IM mounting bolts is just 89 inch/lbs (less than 7.5 ft/lbs). The Port Seal gaskets are very malleable and deform easily and will create leaks if over tightened.
I'd bet that 90% of us that follow this forum routinely and have done some mods would believe their mounting bolts were "loose" if you walked out with a wrench right now and just give one bolt a "test" turn. 89 in/lbs is just snug. Do your car and yourself a favor and get a good inch/pound torque wrench. The foam is not intended to provide sealing or any kind of gasket function. Therefore, be sure to remove any foam that might interfere with complete seating of your LT2 or you might be seeing frequent check engine lights.

Thanks! So, is this picture showing how much material you removed or did you have to take off more?

So about halfway. I shaved these areas wider and a bit deeper.

I figured this out after I chopped up my foam beyond the point of it being of NVH benefit... To which, honestly, is mainly around/near the HPFP. I have an MSD sitting around that I will eventually test run, but I think you can use the foam with minor cutting, as well. Side note: The NVH isn't horrible without the foam, but it seems my engine runs a touch cooler without the foam under the LT2, in that the LT2 creates a decent gap between the engne valley and the intake manifold. |
