Mishimoto Catch Can broken PCV tool threads
Hi All,
I wanted to share this information for people who may also be installing a catch can. Be careful when tightening the piece below as the threads separated and became stuck in the engine for myself and at least one more person on this forum. I ended up putting silicon on the seal and it seems to be working (500+kms since install). On a positive note Mishimoto has shown me support throughout this small mishap and I have no doubt it will be purchasing more product from them in the near furture!

Would you recommend a dab of lube before threading the fitting in?

I was intimately examining the catch can components and said that exact thing to myself about the plastic fittings...

I haven't heard back from them yet... How are you going to remove the threads stuck inside the engine?
I have a "stripped screw" removal set, and I may be able to get one of the large sizes of those in there. But I'm not sure if it will bite enough of the plastic to unscrew them, or if the plastic is so soft it will just cut right through. Again, I barely applied any torque when mine sheared off. For those that have yet to do this, you have to hand tighten the part most of the way in as you have to hold move/hold the CCV tubes out of the way to keep it going in straight and not cross-thread it. After I cleared the CCV lines, I switched to a small adjustable wrench since I guess I don't have an 19mm open ended wrench (or at least couldn't find it). The washer never made it into contact with the engine before it sheared. That's how I figured out they were broke, the part stopped getting closer no matter how many times it turned. I did lube it up with some oil before threading, and it is mentioned in the installation to do the same.

To the OP and everyone else,
I just want to address the PCV adapter. It is a plastic part that requires very little force to make it snug in the port that it needs to thread into. Our engineer is coming up with a torque spec for everyone to follow so there is less confusion on how to tighten this adapter down. This is a pretty complex part that could only really be made with a glass-reinforced plastic injected mold, but it is by no means a weak part. It is very strong, but you do have to be careful with it when tightening it down. Just be sure that the part is threaded snugly inside the port. Once it's snug, you don't have to try tightening it anymore, after ensuring that process is done properly, you won't have any issues! The same thing happened to me on Saturday, I spent half of the day trying to get this out of my car. I ended up using a screw driver as a chisel and lightly tapping with a hammer. I then used pliers and was able to back the piece out. Pretty weak design for sure.
So, I called mishimoto and explained what happened and told them I was pretty irritated about this, they are sending me a new PCV adapter. I asked for the piece to remove the CCV tubing out of my way and they said they couldn't provide this part. Has anyone removed the ccv tubing out of the way just wondering if it makes it easier? Would be great if it doesn't happen again!!
