They keep any dirt and debris from getting into the lower control arm, specifically in the spring seat

However, my dealer installed EVERYTHING. Had them remove the track brake cooling deflectors at the first oil change. Removed the front license plate bracket myself.

They are only supposed to be used on track day (per the manual). Plus they hang too low and scraped when I went over speed humps.

Hmmm. I was thinking anything good for the track has to be good for daily driving...I definitely wouldn't want any scraping or damage to the part though through normal roads.

They come with the ZL1. I had a few plastic pieces in my trunk that the dealer put on the car during PDI.

the "street" setup is for better gas mileage with a reduction in cooling air to the brakes. Not an issue for "normal" street driving (according to the manual)

I'm going to guess that the covers are left off for shipping possibly due to them tying the car down using the control arms? Now that the car has arrived at the dealership, they need to be installed by the dealer??

Just a guess.

Thanks for the answer.

Now another question, why are they concerned with dirt in the spring seat? I've had & worked on a lot of cars over my lifetime, never have seen any that had a cover for that. And this just covers the bottom side, wouldn't the dust/dirt settle in anyway from the upper exposed side?

Maybe I'm overthinking this one...

It wouldn't surprise me if the covers are just one more (although seemly very minor) piece of the overall aerodynamic flow underneath the cars. The engineers put an incredible amount of air flow analysis these days. They may help smooth the air flow, reducing turbulence , it 'might' affect airflow to other areas, who knows.

I would have told my dealer they could keep the car if they installed the front license plate mount without asking.

As for the original question, I would assume as most have said this would be to keep things cleaner and keep road debris from hitting the control arm directly.

Anyone have a pic of either the lose part, or installed? My dealer says nothing in the trunk of the ZL1 right now, and has no idea what I'm talking about. It may be installed already??

Correct! The covers are for air flow management under the car, specifically air flow over the rear suspension.
