I gotta agree on the V8 thing though. Looking through history you don't see the 6cyl cars being talked about or at auction today. I'd just eat Ramen and bologna sammiches for a while to get the V8. I've done it before myself.

In case the O.P. is still deciding: during the recent fire sale, lowest prices for basic V6 and V8 models were in the $20k and $30k range, respectively. That's a wide spread for 90% of the population, and can have personal repercussions for years if not decades. The sting of excess debt lasts far beyond the thrill of new ownership. Then again, if one has already built the capital to "buy in" without straining the budget against life's essentials--and the wise have a very long list of essentials--well then, YOLO.
In term of my academic pursuit, I drafted these decision trees. I hope to one day earn my real-car-guy membership card.

I like the V8s because of the sound and the power, but I wasn't gonna pay 10k extra just to listen to that rumble. I know that for the performance you get out of the SS its a hell of a deal, but I just don't get on the cars and let them rip as much as I used to. For the Camaro V6 vs V8 isn't that big of a deal to me... I learned a long time ago that if you really want to go fast motorcycles are the way to go.

I hate bikes infact with a passion. My car is far from stock (very,very far from stock) I have been to the track 3x in my life and wasn't my thing. I do however have my youtube page with plenty of damage I put down in "Mexico". My thing are 50 rolls to 150-160 (in mexico of course). To eat my own words partially there is a local guy here in Houston who comes to the meets in a V6 3.7 Mustang and he hurts a lot of V8 owners feelings, I have nothing but respect for his car bc that sob is crazy fast off the hit to like 120.

For me it's a bit more challenging than straight line. I've anywherendlways tan "run what ya brung style". Pretty much how I played fout all in highschool, college, and even now how I'm in the wrestling ring. I'll challenge anyone with anything. Engine size, gym stats, never really determined the outcome of the current. Just past achievements. That's why my view is still the same. Find out what your needs and wants are....REALISTICALLY...Not " Fast and furious" style...but goals and what you plan to legit do, and run with either.

Been debating the V6 or V8 question. Had a 67 Firebird with a 350 ci 350 HP engine back in 79 and it was ungodly fast.
I miss that feeling. I think it's the V8 for me. Since I'm probably not getting it for a year or 2, the price difference shouldn't be so extreme I test drove the Turbo 4 - it was NICE!!!! Very surprising - way better than the lumpy Mustang EcoBoost. Will try a V6 and V8 in the next few weeks but I think you can't go wrong either way |

For V8:
Exhaust note aftermarket availability wanting more than 400hp without boost For V6 Want at least 4th gen or earlier V8 power without V8 cost lower cost to maintain (insurance/registration/etc) Basically if your last V8 experience wasn't a modern >400hp v8 or dedicated racer then you probably will only miss the sound of the V8, rather than the mistaken idea that you'll be missing the performance of the V8. |

Nothing against the LT1, mind you. I believe the Camaro is blessed with solid engines throughout the model range, and I think the nuances in engineering flair showed that they took their job seriously on each one, even if the SS is the iconic model. - Along the same lines, numerous posts have said something to the effect of "if I had to get the V6, I would just get an Accord or something." Version 0 of the chart had "GTFO" everywhere, but I thought "Accord/Civic" would resonate more. It is in effect saying "If I had to get anything other than the SS, I would just buy an Accord." To me, this amounts to spending $25-$30k on a FWD car that tops out as an MDX instead of a RWD, sport-sedan sourced one that tops out as a CTS-V. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but if that is one's true preference, why buy a Camaro at all, regardless of engine? So, in summary, the charts needed a /sarcasm tag. Hopefully a few people got a chuckle

Now they believe that other people's non-v8 choices may be equiv to an accord. So maybe 1st chart is normal car buying decision tree... then the second can be "Car guy"'s opinion of 1st guy's decision chart. Cuz it's def not their own decision tree. that's what i meant ....i got that it was poking fun. |
