Yep I am in the Bay Area of CA so it works here...my wife only drives 8 miles a day so it will get used but not abused! I second the lotus comment too! One really interesting thing though is that this car also has a very high end carbon fiber top too...someone spent $$$$$$$ getting this made. I figure my wife will drive with Bimini top on with rear section/window out..should be like a wrangler with 1/2 doors and a Bimini!

Well I know the 5th gen 1 le is a dinosaur compared to the 6 gen 1 le ....... And I doubt the Porsche spider could lap anywhere close to the 6 th gen 1 le ......... But your taste is impeccable and I love your Porsche spider congratulations on an awesome purchase !

Mmm I think you'll be ok without the 1LE for a bit. Fantastic choice and congrats on the purchase!

There's a guy in my neighborhood that has a red 911 and a red Corvette in his garage. Love to drive by and peek once in a while... but I NEVER see them out and about. Envious of the cars, but feel sad that they're never used. ENJOY IT!

Thanks guys! There is nothing worse than not driving your toys, I have been fortunate enough to own a couple of Ferrari and Lamborghini models in my life and know that by driving them you "save" them. I had a 355 spider that I put 85k miles on and only ever changed oil, belts and hoses. My buddy who kept his in a secure environment and never drove it (only on perfect days) spent more on tow trucks than I did on maintenance!.

To the poster that said the c6 1le is "light years ahead" fails to realize that a skilled driver in a 50% slower car will still lap the bad driver in a fast car....it ain't the car that matters!

NSCD knows it....slow car fast vs fast car slow! Plus 320hp in 2900lbs (spyder) is not slow by any means!

I would hope so, or Miatas would have a huge issue.

So with that said here is my new "track" car (and the wife's DD): 2011 Spyder with 13k miles, pdk etc. I picked it up for $46k and it is the rare color combo I wanted, so yes more $$ than more than a "brand new" 1LE, but I doubt I will ever see any depreciation. If the 1LE turns out to be as good as promised, I will pick one up late this winter (dealers that end up with them in stock in the northern states will deal deal big time, as I found out on my last 1LE). So starting in December I will be back out at Laguna and if ANY of you want free instruction (I am instructor with most) or some general track knowledge, just hit me up...I will obviously be easy to spot!
If having both of these cars was an option why was so much fuss made about which one to get?

From the OP's pics, it looks to have roll hoops behind each seat, would those suffice? or do you need a full cage?

The "hoops" are structural roll cage parts of the frame itself and I have never seen a track where the are "not allowed..... "

As for why was this a discussion if I could buy both? I did not want to buy 2 cars, only 1. My thoughts are that I can get everything I spent on the spyder back whenever I want, so IF the 1le turns out to be a winner, I will wait for the depreciation to be ate up and get one. I am almost 50yo, I am not interested in buying "new" just to have a new car....I got 9k off of the 2014 msrp by waiting until near the end of 2014.
