The manual cars still need a bump in rear gear to cross the traps around redline.

As others have said, with the 8 speeds and super short 1st and second gear, the rear end ratio doesn't have to be 3.73. The gears in the auto compensate for it.
Yes it will. I'm very curious to see how much faster. I wonder if it'll be as dramatic as the 8 speed auto Hellcat vs. the manual Hellcat. |

I've driven a A8 Scat Pack and I assure you...taller final drive ratios are quickly are easily negated with how aggressively geared that transmission is.
With the automatic the new Camaro is going to pull like crazy out of the hole and up top |

Unless the same pro is racing both cars on the same track at the same day, the times between the manual and auto are close enough where it's a drivers race every time. It'll come down to do you wanna row your own, or let the car do it's thing.

My 2006 C6 Corvette had that ratio and it ran right at 11.99 with bolt ons. Never had any trouble launching and it was fun to beat most Mustangs and all of the Dodge Hemis. The auto's transmission gear ratios made it very competitive with the manual transmission C6s with 3:42s or whatever they are.

Not true. A pro could come close to the same times but an average driver would have a hard time post times within a few tenths of each other. Most people struggle with launching a high powered car on stock tires. Autos are very easy and anyone can simply smash the pedal. Plus the manual car will need gears to be in the proper rpm in 4th.

Half a sec in the 1/4 is a driver's race (in the ATS-V tests)? That's about 5 car lengths. That's a pretty big margin. I can see a couple of tenths, but the manual driver is by the most likely to screw up. Anything is possible but to me a driver's race is a much smaller margin.

I think the auto shows a bigger difference on the ats-v since it would allow the turbo to get spooled up at launch. With the lt1, as seen on the vette, the difference will be smaller between the two trans options. |
