The 7 speed, in my opinion, will stay Corvette. Would be nice to see the active rev match and no lift shift make its way to the Camaro though. To be honest, that's the only way I'd consider a manual. I didn't grow up driving them and find them to be annoying in any circumstance other than banging gears at WOT.

why would you have to relearn on a 6spd? 1-5 all stay the same...

While this maybe true....
In my opinioin, when your drving a muscle car, one would think that MPG isn't as big of a deal as true muscle. Now, this is why we have v6's that way you get a combination of both. To me, MPG isn't that important over HP. I guess if you can afford a 35+ car, you can afford 3.00 - 3.50 a gallon (currently). |

Another think to consider, a 7 speed trans weighs more than a 6 speed trans....

False.. And True. Depends what you're comparing. TR6070 weighs less than the TR6060 I believe.. I guess they probably have a newer version of the 6 speed that weighs less though.. Idk.

I'm sure the M7 will be in the new Camaro. I wouldn't mind the auto rev match feature because you can turn it on and off. I've read a lot about the M7 which mostly seems to get favorable reviews (including rev match)except for the tighter gates because of the additional gear which takes getting used to.
However, the A8 is quicker ET wise, lighter than the outgoing A6 (better mpg as well) and is more popular (and $$$). The only bad knock I've read on the A8 is it's not good for heavy track use (GM recommends the M7 for track use at least on the ZO6). That's related to cooling which might not affect the new Camaro because it might have better cooling. I guess we'll have to find out. |

People went from 3rd to 6th instead of 4th because they weren't used to another bottom gear on the right. I'm sure people missed 2 to 3 and went 2 to 5 when they first drove a 5 spd.

I can confirm this statement. I learned on a CJ5 4 speed Jeep... and when I got my 91 YJ with the 5 speed I went from 2 to 5 a lot at first.

I've also unconsciously reached for the phantom 6th gear in my IROC-Z, from time to time . Crunch.
